11 One-Ingredient DIY Face Masks for Perfect Skin

We love super-green DIY beauty. Because we know with greater certainty than store-brought things that we’re not putting weird, unknown chemicals right into our skin pores. Because we’re not costing the environment with even more  fancy, non-biodegradable packaging than we already are. Because it’s super-cheap and probably beats the expensive stuff. Because it’s so ridiculously easy it’s not even funny.

So here, we’re making DIY facials even easier for you–with one-ingredient, all-natural DIY facials with common supplies you can easily find right out of your refrigerator shelf or kitchen cabinet.

And as common-sense FYI–always drink lots of water and wear sunscreen moisturizer. If you want pretty and healthy skin, don’t skimp on the bare-bone basics.

1. Honey. Use a cloth damp with warm water and pat skin to open pores. Smear honey onto skin and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, and pat skin dry with cloth damp with cold water to cloes pores.

2. Raw egg yolk. Spread on face and neck and leave on skin for 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

3. Raw egg white. Beat egg white until frothy and spread on face. Wait until it dries and rinse off with warm water.

4. Grapes. Cut one grape in half and rub lightly all over face.

5. Banana. Mash one overripe banana and spread onto face. Rinse off after 15 to 30 minutes with warm water.

6. Plain yogurt. Apply on face after cleansing and leave on for 15 – 20 minutes.

7. Apple cider vinegar. Dilute apple cider vinegar with two parts water and apply over face with a cotton ball as a toner after washing face every day and eveyr night.

8. Olive oil. Dab on lips at bedtime if chapped or leave on face overnight.

9. Avocado. Mash avocado, leave on skin for ten minutes.

10. Baking soda. Use as exfoliant for face by adding to your regular cleanser.

11. Milk. Seriously? Yes, seriously. Swab on face with cotton ball, leave on until your skin feels tight. Rinse off with warm water. Your skin will feel super-soft afterwards.

I've done honey, banana, plain yogurt and milk–but i've yet to do the avocado! Let me know how it goes :)

Sounds a bit crazy, but I eat plain yogurt with honey and ground flax seeds, so I just separate about 2 tablespoons to put on my face and neck every other day. It exfoliates and the lactic acid in the yogurt is great for your pores.

Hi Renay— our site programmer is working on it, along with other kinks in the system that we know are an annoying inconvenience for our community members. We're aware of it, and we promise we're working on it! :)

Thanks Yumi! I did the avocados this morning, loved it…I used half of one. Then I did lemon with pure water for a tonic afterwards, my skin ended up nice. I put some on Connor too, he was laughing when I showed him and called him Shrek.

Thanks for posting this DIY. So familiar with your method and been doing them for years. Milk ingredient is a 10/10 rating for me. I also mix things together like milk with kalamansi (a version of lemon in my region)… milk with honey, etc. I don't follow any measurements, only trust intuition on this. Try papaya or cucumber. One might not be convinced of the result but what a fun way to pamper yourself.

Keep on resonating with THAT energy.

    Love and peace,

I think this is amazing, Yumi! Thank you so much. Since your post, and after reading your other links to skin care, everynight I have cleansed my face with pure baking soda, and three times during the past week used organic milk as a mask, then before I go to bed, I apply a thin layer of olive oil to my face and lips.

In the morning, I cleanse my face with the baking soda, shower, then apply a thin layer of the olive oil. Amazing results! I'm 56 years old, and my skin looks at least 10 years younger. I think I will post a new picture of myself.

I use reduced fat organic milk, and the rest of the products are organic only because organic foods have not been genetically engineered. Just a personal preference of mine.

I also have an age spot on my wrist, and I've been applying the apple cider vinegar every day and the age spot is noticeably lighter.

The money I save useless products full of chemicals and who knows what else and know that my skin is drinking healthy products, makes me feel even better!

These ingredients sound great! Will have to give it a try! I think that care before you go out into the sun is also very important, so make sure you put on some sunblock when going outside, because although these masks are good, they're not miracle workers!

I have been using egg's yolk and olive oil for my skin but it didn't work. You have given some good ingredients for skin mask. I'll definitely try these for my face and body. I hope these will work. Thanks for these great tips.
