3 Ways to Pamper Your Inner Self

On the outside, to the untrained eye, we may look at our best. We are wearing our favorite outfit. Our face may be freshly washed, our hair combed, and make-up put on just right. But on the inside, hides the truth of how we are really feeling, at that moment.

While looking our best, we may be also listening … consciously or unconsciously … to the endless mind chatter that is forever judging things, undermining our confidence, or pushing us out front when we should be stepping back. From moment to moment, our inner self is under constant assault from the ever present Ego.

Nexus’ Ravi Dykema, quoting Shinzen Young, describes a person’s ability to break free of the Ego, as an action similar to breaking free of the Earth’s gravity. It takes spiritual "technology" like meditation, that over time becomes as instinctive as breathing, to achieve this personal breakthrough.

On the other side of Ego waits Enlightenment.

Recently, I have come face to face with three spiritual technologies – complementary to meditation – that can be of service. They could be called inner pampering, because each is a pattern interrupt. Each is designed to placate the Ego, while using the mind to bend open the bars of our self designed prison. I’m mentioning them briefly here, and if you are interested, I’ll explain more later on.

1. Rest AS Awareness. The basis of this self identification with Spirit, says Candice O’Denver, is to break out of our ego-addiction. Can we do this, on a frequent basis throughout the day? Can we find moments of time in our busy lives to rest AS Awareness?

2. Use a focused blessing to change your DNA. Guruji, an engineer and spiritual teacher from India shows how it works. A 10-minute blessing offered several times a day to plants, animals, the Earth, and ourselves, can infuse our body with important spiritual values. Values such as love, compassion, joy and happiness can seep so deeply into our inner self that they become the guiding forces in our lives.

3. When something unexpected happens, and the inner self-talk erupts in a frenzy of fear, interrupt it with this phrase: "This is going to be more magnificant than anything I can imagine." Say this to each fear-based thought as it starts to emerge, says legendary Rennie Davis. Say it over and over until YOU automatically agree.

To pamper your inner self, use your body-suit like that of an astronaut. However, instead of heading into outer space, turn inward. Journey deep to into your personal Universe and rest AS awareness there.

I would love to learn of your experiences as well.

Alexia, these are wonderful suggestions! I especially love #2, offering a blessing to all living creatures throughout the day. What a great way to spend 10 minutes–as opposed to checking your email or aimlessly surfing through the net.
