How do you get 4000 people together in New York City for an epic flash-mob-water-gun-fight?
The answer, apparently, is in your ipod.
Last month, Improv Everywhere — a New York City-based prank collective that “causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places ” — successfully brought over 4,000 people to Governors Island in NYC for a hilarious prank that involved water guns, giant white capes, and shower caps. Apparently, this year’s event was so large that 300 people didn’t even make it to the meeting place and instead ended up hosting a second flash mob in Battery Park.
This event was the organization’s 9th annual MP3 experiment, which brings together large groups of people by having participants download an MP3 file on their ipod, meet at a specific location, and then press play at a chosen time. Everyone then follows a series of hilarious instructions spoken by “Steve, the Omnipotent Voice from Above,” leaving unsuspecting onlookers confused, entertained, and probably thinking they’d stepped into an alternatie dimension.
