Good Afternoon Intent Community,
Our blogging tip this week is about PHOTOS!
Some of you have already figured it out, but if you are wondering how to add photos to your blogs we have some tips and tricks for you. Unfortunately, Intent.com is still not set up for you to upload photos directly to our server. But no worries, there are ways around it. Lets break this down into a 3 step process:
1. Find a Photo
There are 3 possible sources where this photo can come from:
- A photo you took with your own two hands (or two feet or whatever)
- A photo you bought from a stock photo source (such as iStockPhoto, Getty Images etc)
- A photo under the Creative Commons License (which essentially means that photographers offer their work for you to use albeit come regulations).
Flickr is a great source for creative commons photos. To read more about it and find photos check out – Flickr: Creative Commons
2. Upload your Photo
You have your photo now what? Like I mentioned before there isn’t a way to upload it on intent directly but you can use a photo host. The best photo host site I have used is Photobucket. It is a simple process.
- Save your photo onto your computer
- Sign up for an account if you don’t have one
- Go to ‘my albums’ (which is also the default location once you log in)
- Find and Upload images from your computer
- Once it is uploaded it will ask if you want to add tags (skip this step if you want and go back to your album)
- Mouse over your image and a little box will appear underneath it
- Click in the direct link box and copy it (ctrl+c or right click copy)
3. Insert into your Blog
As soon as you have copied the image URL, rush over to your blog and click on that yellow insert photo image (between the hyperlink and you tube) and pop it in there. A few parameters to keep in mind:
- If you want the image nested in the text set the width or height (only one and leave the other blank) to about 200 or 300 and select align left or right (wherever you want it)
- If you want it to stand on its own just entering the URL alone should be fine.
- If your image is gigantic and goes out of the area, make sure your width is 600 or lower

And that is it! You now have an image in your blog (cheers all around). If you have any questions feel free to drop comments and we will try and answer them to the best of our ability.
xoxo, Eden

Thank you!

this is so helpful. I wish it had come this morning:) Thanks for the tip on Flickr's creative commons photos too. I added one photo today to my butternut squash recipe post, but it took a lot of struggle and pirate swears. I'll include more photos from now own.
thanks a lot! sometimes adding a picture enhances the look of the post.
It'd be nice if pics could be directly uploaded to the site .
I agree that a picture (photo) may be worth a thousand words, but I have found this process challenging in more than a few ways. Do you ever expect to have a process that will allow for direct uploading of photos?

mmmm just came to think of it – we do upload our profile pics directly to the site, so I guess it's a matter of making the feature available to the posts as well. It's be much more convenient for the users
BTW always wanted to comment that your choice of pics on the front page that accompany the selected posts are quite pro. I've noticed some good pics there. Wonder who the photographers are….?

Great that you're offering these solutions. I snagged my own photos from MySpace,(just the good old-fashioned, right click copy & paste) any host you have as long as its on the net and not coming directly from your computer works. I just saw this post tonight. I hope others jump on this bandwagon, because it does make a post more effective.
Thanks!

PS Check out my blog to see what I've done (smiles)
