This time of year everyone seems to get motivated to lose weight, make more money or improve his or her relationships. While these are worthy external goals, I would like to offer an alternative internal New Year’s resolution such as being more grateful, having faith that you are in the process of finding and carrying out your life purpose, or simply being more kind towards yourself.
Many people dismiss these types of inner goals as a waste of time or question whether they have any tangible, physical benefit. Well, these types of thought-patterns likely do have an immediate impact on your physical body.
Dr. Masaru Emoto researched and documented the effects that certain thoughts and words have on water crystals. His results demonstrate that thoughts focused on beauty, gratitude and love had a positive effect on the formation of water crystals, whereas negative thoughts such as ‘hate’ or ‘ugly’ destroyed the structure of water crystals. The mere intention behind a word or phrase had a physical effect, for better or for worse, on the water crystals. Since the majority of our body is made of water, then it is likely that the thoughts we have about our self and others can change the physical make-up of our body for better or for worse.
Many people question Dr. Emoto’s research and theories about the physical effect our thoughts can have. However, more important than the scientific data behind these theories is the effect you notice it has on you. Just try spending one day where you say to yourself, “I don’t understand how, but this experience is likely helping me serve a higher purpose” or some other uplifting affirmation. Then, document your personal reaction. Do you feel more stressed, anxious or worried or do you feel lighter, stronger and healthier? If it works for that day, then consider having an inner resolution for the New Year.
