Blogging Best Practices

A couple of pointers to ensure that your posts get the readership, placement and appreciation they deserve! Stick by these to increase your homepage presence and chances for syndication with our partner sites.

  • Posts should be between 200-500 words.

  • Use a clear headline. People will be more likely to read it and it gives your post a greater chance of appearing on Intent’s homepage.

  • Include keywords in your title to easily identify the content of your post.

  • Select the most relevant category for your post (please don’t select them all!) and also input some keywords in the "free tagging" section so readers can search for your blog by subject.

  • Post on a regular basis to build your following on Intent. People will come to anticipate your posts.

  • Each post should have a clear takeaway on wellness (whether individual, social, global or spiritual wellness).

  • Spelling and basic grammar should be checked in all posts.

  • Any URLs within your posts should be checked to be sure they are working links.

  • Please do not post content that is egregiously self-promotional.

    Thank you Babita,

    So Emma, is it you?

How am I doing so far?

    200-500 words?

Do you mean a limit of 500? Or must there be a minium of 200 with a maximum limit of 500 words?

    In peace and love,

    Razz

    Dear editor,

I would like to make a suggestion. It would be a good idea for this site to have, for the purposes of better blogging, a "preview and edit" icon. Many other sites have them and they are very instrumental in helping to assure a cleaner blog.

I have seen blogs here in which some bloggers have also mentioned the same. Some have posted twice in an attempt to clear up the first blog, in which a mistake was not seen until it was posted. I for one have done so.

    Thank you——– Emma?

Hi Babita and Razz, and Intent community!

The Intent Editor profile is a way for us in the office to communicate best practices, success stories and calls for content to you, our community! All of us in the office participate in the Intent Editor's profile and content, so no, it is not me — it's all of us :) .

These tips are not requirements for member blogger posts, but they are guidelines — and should help get more traffic to your posts!

If you'd like to discuss more off-line, feel free to contact me through my profile,

    Best,

    Emma

I know Intent Editor I was just kidding! Btw I thought it says on Emma's profile that she is the Senior Editor at Intent so why the mystery editor now?

To be honest I'm still trying to figure out the overall Intent of Intent…?:) Is it like an online mag or a social networking site or what? A hybird?!

I try to do most of the things about but I think the one I have the most difficulty with is choosing a category as I find the stuff I write then to overlap over topics or perhaps I'm just naturally the type that looks at things from the bigger pic mode so I always see all these connections…so hard to lock down a category…I also never realise you all had a primary and a secondary category although go through the tabs at the top of the page today I'm getting that. Will try to be more responsible with that. Sometimes I'm lazy to re-edit my posts after I've posted them here but do them on my personal blog sites where I re-post them from….like Blogger has lots of easy editing features perhaps…like the little pencil at the bottom of each post makes it easy.

Razz you can edit your posts on here if you got to your profile and look on blogs there is an edit feature that you can used even after you have posted! Editting is such a challenging game though! :)

    Dear editor,

What this site needs is an preview and edit button. Many other posting and blogging sites have them, they are a very useful part of good blogging…clean writing.

Before a comment is added for the entire world to see, a blogger can preview it as it would appear. It is that viewing where mistakes are picked up by the author. The author then can click on the "edit" button and fix them. It makes for much cleaner post.

    Hi Babita,

Thank you for the info on editing, but I am referring to editing on a "response" to someone else's blog. I do not see a feature to do that.

    In love and peace,

    Razz
