A Call for Humanity in Haiti

Watching the images and hearing about the loss of life, destruction and aftermath of the chaos in Haiti, one can only agree with President Obama who said it is an "especially cruel and incomprehensible tragedy."

The moments of panic are not yet over.  I find my own heart aching at the thought of the loss of family, friends, and community that so many face in the days ahead. The final numbers will take a while to come in, but as a country and a society, Haiti – already the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere – is burdened with insurmountable challenges.

Two days ago, almost 100 Intent friends committed to making a daily intent with me over the next 30 days.. I feel both humbled and thrilled to see how our voices for positive impact is spreading.

Tonight, I ask that you join me in taking the intent to help others and putting it into action for our fellow human beings who are suffering.

There are many incredible organizations helping with relief efforts, supplies, and much needed medical attention in Haiti.

Choose one organization – there is a great list at www.cnn.com/impact — and make a donation, whether it is $10 or several thousand. I just made a donation to Doctors Without Borders - but there are many who are doing great work.

Spread the word to friends, coworkers, your online communities about how you are helping and ask them to join..

As a humanity there are times when we are called for the reach out and help. Now is one of those times.

With love, Mallika

I had been holding on to a few extra dollars, not much, and I didn't know why, now I do… any little bit can help. Most organizations will let you write in your own amount. Prayers to all.

The devastation caused by the earthquake is almost too difficult for me to comprehend. I am grateful that the US has responded swiftly to this tragedy. We are a global family and like it or not this horrific event has will have a long reaching impacted on us all. I have a small website ( http://www.anointed-circle.com) and placed a link to yelehaiti there. My husband and I have made a donation to yelehaiti and Doctors Without Borders. I am a Registered Nurse so I completed the online application for volunteer field work with Doctors Without Borders as well. I went to college with a young woman from Haiti, one of the church groups I belong to supports an orphanage in Ferrier, Haiti. This tragedy hits close to home for me. Sending our Haitian family Love, Light and Peace. Praying for the safety of all.

Just donated right now to Doctors Without Borders. According to the website, they are in the midst of setting up an inflatable hospital structure in Haiti right now.
