Catharsis in Sharing

I had to deliver a keynote speech at a Cancer Survivor Day here in Maine this past weekend. I wrung my hands about it for months and wondered why i had said yes and perseverated about what to say until two days before the event when I finally wrote it. Once i wrote it, i knew exactly why i had said yes. It’s not your typical "Go Gett’em Team!" sort of thing that you usually hear at these events (which neither inspire nor speak to me) and was met with a mixed response. But the mere act of putting it down turned out to be incredibly cathartic for me. It was hard, but i’m better for having gotten it out and sharing it.

I have found it increasingly healing to share it beyond the attendees at the event, and I felt it would be the right thing for me to share here. If you find yourself with 15 minutes to kill and are interested, I would be honored if any of you read it. You can read it at the link at the bottom of this post.

There is also a short Imovie at the bottom of the speech which takes a little time to load. My husband was asked to speak but is allergic to public speaking so we came up with this little movie that has some imagery and music with a voice-over of his wise and wonderful words.

I’m wishing you all peace and light.
