So I show up there with my student, actress Osas Ighodaro, my close friend and her daughter Bianca and two producers that are doing a show on me for TVOne…(A half hour interview).
Alot of the kids were coming from different activities at the center, so I just began greeting them wherever they were…Felt like Barack lol.
Then when there were about 50 kids gathering around and sitting in the seats the staff leader formally introduced me and I began to talk to them…"I want to thank the staff of The Door for inviting me, it’s really and honor, blah, blah"….then I said "I’m not here to lecture you or tell you how to live your lives, I just want to give you some tools that I used in order to get through some tough times…and I’m not getting paid to come here, I came because I love you"….then a bit of a chuckle came from the fellas…I said "Not that way fellas"..lol
Then I had them start my program of writing their dreams on a paper that we handed out…
"Your dreams are what you see yourself doing in the future…dream big as if you have all the money in the world"…then a kid bout 18 sitting with some thuggish look on his face said "I wrote my dream come and take a look", I went over and his card said "I WANT TO ROB PEOPLE AND FUCK THEM UP"….So I said to him…"That’s good, you’ve got alot of CHI energy and so did Hitler, he killed peoples mothers and chilren, is that what you want to do too?", he said "I like your blazer and I want it"…so a few chuckles came from the others and I took the blazer off my back and said "here it’s yours keep it", so he did and walked out there center with it, on his way out, "when you come back I got some sneakers for you". I told the other kids that it’s only material stuff and that gets old, but my love for you won’t…the kid came back and I told him the same, but more face to face, the rest of the night we showed some of TLD and we all fell in love…
