Sexually Transmitted Diseases have been around for thousands of years but how come after the invention of antibiotics that easily cure the diseases they are still not only here, but very prevalent?
Chlamydia infects about one if four people in the United States and coupled with other STDs there will be 19 million infections this year alone. One problem is that the symptoms of chlamydia can be very mild or might be mistaken for something else. Also many people have more then one partner making it easy to pass diseases such as chlamydia along.
Anyone can contract an STD such as chlamydia but they are most prevalent in people ages 16 to 29 and continuing to climb. Routine screenings and proper education is our best defense against chlamydia but it is such a touchy subject that many people simply don’t get the information they need.
Chlamydia can be extremely harmful to women if left untreated. It can render a women infertile. When symptoms are present they can include:
- Burning sensation when urinating
- A white discharge
- A Yellow discharge
- Abdominal Pain
It’s important that if you are sexually active to get tested every year for chlamydia and other STDs.
