Hello everyone, and "Welcome" to My Personal Blog. I’ve been blogging for a while at but thought that I would like to separate my personal and professional lives, and since I’ve had the time off at this beautiful time of the year, I thought what better time to start this blog off than Christmas Day.
On this blog, you will find out about my day-to-day happenings, but occassionally I’ll get a little opinionated and tell you how I feel about something, so stay tuned and subscribe for those days when I just want to rant!!
Well, Christmas 2008 has truly been magnificent for me. This was the first year with our 6 week old baby Tabitha Joy who truly has lived up to her name and has been a Joy today. She slept all the way through our traditional Christmas lunch at The General’s Arms pub in Little Baddow in Essex (We’ve been there for a few meals now and it is great food if you fancy traditional pub food! Get to Essex and check it out.) She has been similarly good all day as well with easy feeding, easy bath-time, and is now sleeping giving Mum and Dad time to play with their presents
I must say though, that at six weeks old she was not that impressed with her own Christmas presents, but hey, we can’t have it all can we?
Now, back to the presents… Before this year I loved the whole receiving of Christmas presents. I would sometimes find it difficult – if a present was very big I would always say something along the lines of "Oh you shouldn’t have" or I would have awkward moments where I didn’t like a gift too. This year has been different!
I have really opened myself up to the whole meaning behind Christmas which to me is celebration, ritual and ceremony, and gratitude.
I have learnt to be grateful for everything that comes to me. Laurie and I have had a challenging year and the many ways we have been challenged has all been worth it with the eventual birth of our daughter. We have also seen immense generosity from family members in our challenging times, and sitting her now reflecting on these acts has really filled my heart up. So for me, gratitude is key at all times of the year, but especially this time.
Ritual is also an important part of Christmas to me. I have a very large family and usually I see them all on Christmas day for the usual things. However this year we are doing this on Boxing Day which I must say I am most certainly looking forward to tomorrow.
Of course, Christmas means a lot to different people for different reasons. I would love to hear your ideas on what Christmas means to you. Please comment
Oh and by the way… I do love presents still
I have received some great presents this year! (I also GAVE some great presents too
) I received surfing lessons so very soon I will be braving the cold English waters to try something I have always wanted to do, and I also have a new video camera so be prepared to see some video blogs up on here in the very near future!
Enjoy the rest of your Christmas Day wherever you are in the world.
Brett

I just had to comment on that "precious little bundle of joy" you're holding in your arms ~ she makes life so worth living! Your heart is very full so I know you and your wife will be the most wonderful parents to her.
Hugs, Lily
Thank you for your comment Lily – she truly is Joy by name and Joy by nature!
