Cultural Detachment

Self-actualizing people resist enculturation and maintain a certain detachment from the culture in which they are immersed. – Abraham Maslow

This is because self-actualizing people feel a call to a different purpose than many of their peers unless they are fortunate enough to be born into or find a group of like minded people. Wayne Dyer alludes to this phenomenon when he talks about the necessity to resist the pull of the tribe if one wishes to advance spiritually at a faster rate than the population at large.  Can be lonely, but also amazingly rewarding.

    "resist the pull of the tribe" – tribes get together everywhere, and to pull they know how to very well and they go about talking accepting diversity !!!! Hilarious.
