Life is strange in many ways, but if we really stop analyzing it so much we can see that it all makes perfect sense. All of us have at some point or other faced situations that we thought were definitely going to be the end of our life as we know it. Crises which were so overwhelming that we could not see a way out. At that point many of us ask ourselves one question…WHY? Why now? Why me? Why this? and a whole lot more why’s.
In my own life I have realised that the best way to deal with situations like this is to just step back and just BE. No questions, no second guesses, no rationalizations, no ‘if only I did this instead of that’. When we can achieve silence of our inner thoughts, then answers start materializing, solutions appear and night turns into a brand new day. Life is a cycle of dark and light. There’s always going to be a night in our experiences which is surely followed by a day. The nights are there for a purpose. Not just because God thought it would be fun to watch us jump through hoops but because during every period of light (happiness, contentment, learning and discovery) we learn important life lessons and the periods of darkness are a necessary means of allowing us to put into practice what we have learnt. For example if we take a course in Basic Life Support or CPR, aren’t we preparing ourselves for an emergency where we can use this knowledge to save a life? So challenging times are just tests of our skills and knowledge. It should serve to only make us stronger and reinforce what we have learnt.
We can only truly control our own minds, and our thoughts and feelings. We cannot control the actions of others and should not even try to do so. Everyone of us is a reflection of each other. So when we learn to just "be in the now" experiencing life as it happens instead of worrying about things we cannot change, thats when a new beginning emerges out of the dust of disaster.

Very interesting. Picking up on ' We can only truly control our own mind'
Who is asking to be controlled? and who is to be controlled? Is it your mind that is asking for itself to be controlled? You are obviously ( and correctly) implying that 'you' are not your mind, emotion, thoughts and feelings. So who needs to be in control of his or her own mind?
What answers do you get when you place those questions? Who ! What is the nature of that thing which wants to do all these? The answer to that – does it need the aid of your mind, emotions, senses, feelings to be described?
We also think we can't control others actions, but ours – observe that a little more. By control what you actually are interested is in the outcome of action, not the action itself. Its the outcome of actions that lead us to judge/question/validate/analyse situations and life. Would you be interested in action alone without any interest attached to its result?-
Are we ourselves in control of the results of our actions? If not isn't action overrated?
