Time to do a bit of spring cleaning? Donate your denim and help insulate homes in communities in need.
The Gap is giving back, with your help, of course. Take that pair of oh-so-comfortable yet worn out jeans to any Gap store until March 14, and have them turned into UltraTouch Natural Cotton Fiber Insulation. Everyone who donates gets 30 percent off their next denim purchase, too!
The clothing retailer is partnering with the COTTON. FROM BLUE TO GREEN® campaign, which is now in its fourth year. Since its inception, the campaign has provided insulation from 200 tons of recycled jeans for more than 540 houses built in areas destroyed by natural disasters .
So how do your jeans become insulation? Once the collection is made, the jeans are stripped of all the buttons, zippers, and embellishments. The denim is returned back to the original cotton fiber state and is now ready to be turned into Bonded Logic’s UltraTouch fiber. The material is made of 85 percent post-industrial recycled fibers and provides superior thermal insulation. It is also extremely efficient in blocking sound due to a patented manufacturing technique. The natural fiber insulation is safe for the environment, contains no chemical irritants, and does not itch! UltraTouch is treated with boron, which acts as a fire retardant and also fights mold, fungus and unwanted pests while remaining perfectly safe. The insulation is produced with a minimal amount of energy therefore truly representing the "blue to green" logic.
So if you plan on doing some shopping, or need to clear out some clutter, drop off those jeans at any Gap, babyGap, or GapKids locations and reap the karmic rewards. Oh, that and the 30 percent off! But if your sense of principle won’t let you imbibe in new jeans without the guilt of negating your efforts, just remember that the recycling campaign happens every year. Now you have next year’s contribution!
