Literally, this reminds me of my drinking career. It began with wine splashing, glasses tinkling, people laughing, nights and days of carefree abandon. It ended all too briefly (7 years) with all the "coquetry and charms" gone. Drinking ceased to be fun, yet there I sat at the tiny bar table night after night.
Thank goodness that's over! Now every day I am grateful to be sober, and every day is sacred.
Metaphorically, it depicts to me how the exuberance of youth and its excitement to reach the independence of adulthood is eventually lost under the burden of adult responsibilities.
my first reading of this was back in grade 9th- as part of my hindi curriculum and then i ahd to do this little recitation thing for an inter school thingie..
thats when my first love with madhushala began..
