I am fortunate at this time to not be experiencing a significant life challenge. What I do find challenging is the balancing act that takes place each morning beginning with the earliest waking thoughts. The eyes open, the mind begins to take center stage once again, checking with how the body feels, what day it is and what I am called to do this day. What day of the week it is determines whether the first sound emitted that day is a groan or an Aaaaahhhh.
Friday through Monday are generally Aaahh days; Tuesday through Thursday mornings elicit the groans and the judgement of the day’s activities. My challenge is to avoid the pitfall of discontent that I am not doing the work that I love. My challenge is learning to see that the work I am doing is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing until such time as my intentions segue into my life’s work. Those of us who have charted a spiritual course for ourselves sometimes set very high standards. When we perceive that we aren’t meeting those standards, I for one, question whether or not I am really working my plan.
The safety net that breaks my fall into discontent is the accumulation of twenty years of meditation and my personal jambalaya of understanding drawn from many great teachings including Vedanta and Nature traditions. This is my toolbox and this collective of studies, practices and experiences is how I overcome this and any difficulty encountered. From Ayurveda, I have learned to develop a daily routine that sets the tone for the day and gradually turns my groans into umhs and usually into an aahhs. From Vedanta, I have learned to manage my mind and see all is Brahman, that includes the work I would rather avoid. My meditation restores me to my center of Being where all is in balance. From Nature I draw love and appreciation of the beauty that surrounds us. Using my tools and acknowledging the joy in everything is my true work and this can be done in any setting, so long as I remember to do so.
May we all be so blessed as to possess a personalized set of tools that can overcome any obstacle.
In Peace,
lindam
