Fall – My Favorite Season

I look forward to fall every year because it is my favorite season.  It could be because of growing up in Florida, where the Fall is still warm and the leaves rarely fall.  Maybe it is the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, which I never miss!  Or it could be because Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday, is coming soon.  Or maybe because I was born in early September, fall seems to me to be the beginning of the year.  Symbolically, Fall is the autumn period where the growth and newness of Spring has passed into the enjoyment and activity of Summer.  And, Autumn is a reminder that Winter is coming, and I enjoy cooler weather.  Maybe it is a combination of all of those things.

Traditionally, fall is the time of harvest.  This year, we grew heirloom tomatoes.  The seedlings given to us by a friend, Roberta, who became a Master Gardener a few years ago.  Planted in containers they produced very flavorful tomatoes, some enjoyed by an unknown creature who seemed to enjoy eating only half of each one!  Never seen, he managed to eat a portion of each plant’s fruit without leaving any evidence except the clean almost precise cut and the missing piece.  As the first frost came early, we gathered the remaining tomatoes and are watching them gradually turn red in our kitchen.  In a way, it seems like we have brought the season into our home.

Autumn is a time that is reflective and also a time of looking back.  What season are you in?  How is your internal year?  Are you in balance with the world around you?  Are there things that could be better and others that are already becoming happy memories?  What will be your intent for the coming year?

Living a balanced and fulfilled life requires faith, which can sometimes be challenging.  Faith is based on belief, not facts or proof.  No matter what your religion or belief system, faith is important.  With that in mind, I end this post with a quote from, "It’s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown".

P.S.: "If you really are a fake, don’t tell me. I don’t wanna know.” — Linus, writing to the Great Pumpkin
