Food as a Reflection of Self-Love

As I thought about an interesting topic to discuss for this week’s blog, I decided to come back to one of my (and hopefully your) favorite topics…food! And I’m not simply referring to the tasty treats we put in our mouths. Equally important are the ways we nourish ourselves on a primary level. These include such things as the relationships we form, the career paths we follow, the physical activities we engage in, and our spiritual beliefs. Not surprisingly, we often try to use food to fill voids from a lack of this type of primary nourishment in our lives. All too often, this has become a mindless act. This is why it is essential to take care of your mind, body, and spirit as the foundational source of self-love.

Food as a reflection of self-love can swing between both ends of the spectrum. At one extreme are those with eating disorders who use food as a weapon. At the other are those who make it a priority to ingest a moderate amount of the best quality food. Many people find themselves somewhere in the middle. Wherever you find yourself is often an indication of how you are being nourished on a deeper level. Therefore, I encourage you to focus on making small and sustainable steps to improve the quality of nourishment in your life. The result will most likely be that you find yourself making better food choices – telling your body that you are loved, one bite at a time. As always, feel free to share any of your experiences with this concept of nourishment and food as it relates to self-love…
