A Fugee for Haitian President?

I saw about a minute of an interview with Sean Penn on Larry King Live while on the plane today (the interview was with Wolf Blitzer).  In the 30 seconds I saw before the break, Sean Penn brought up the accounting questions of Wyclef’s non-profit and how he thought Wyclef traveling in an entourage in Haiti was inappropriate.  It seemed he wanted to clarify something before the break, but was cut off.

Many celebrities have a genuine desire to serve and undoubtedly they have a voice that brings more awareness to important issues.  Actors like Sean Penn, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Bono are personalities who seem truly educated about issues and passionate about them.  It seems their devotion to their causes is not just for publicity but a genuine desire to give back after being so successful.  That said, sometimes their tone seems judgmental, perhaps?

But back to the subject at hand… What do you think about Wyclef running for President.  There is no question for me that he is truly devoted to his country and passionate about helping out.  Is it true, however, that he cant speak French? And of course politics, bureaucracy and leadership require a skill set different from passionate good will.  But Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwartznegar have shown it can be done.

An article on CNN says:

While little is known about his political agenda, lyrics from his song "President" may provide a sneak peek. In the song, Jean fantasized about what it would be like to lead a country.

"Instead of spending billions on the war. I can use that money, to feed the poor," he sung.

An artist for President.  What do you think?

Fascinating. I feel like at this point, Haiti needs all the help it can get. And even if it sounds ludicrous to have a former Fugees member run for president of Haiti, if that's what's going to bring more attention and money to rebuilding Haiti, then more power to his decision to run.

I agree Yumi, Haiti needs support wherever it is coming from. It's so sad reading about how much of the relief money hasn't reached them yet.

yes this is what Haiti needs one of its own common people to lead the way.

If he is doing wisely the money will follow him.

And with this I mean the rich in his own country.
