Getting Away to Get It On

Valentine’s Day, what a perfect time to celebrate love! But why limit it to one day? Yes, do the Valentine’s Day thing – the card, the flowers, the gift, the special dinner and even candy (dark chocolate, please, if my husband is reading this). But instead of just a one-night-stand, think about making plans for a somewhat longer and maybe more meaningful getaway to a couples retreat.

Valentine’s Day

A couples retreat is a fabulous way to celebrate not only Valentine’s Day, but a birthday, an anniversary, or just to get away with your significant other to add that all-important significance into your relationship. A couples retreat is a vacation wrapped around a workshop.

10 reasons for attending a couples retreat are:

  1. To spend extended quality time together, away from kids, work and other distractions or responsibilities.
  2. To enhance, engage and energize your sexual connection.
  3. To develop or strengthen your communication skills.
  4. To renew your emotional and spiritual union with each other.
  5. To have fun.
  6. To relax.
  7. To meet other like-minded couples.
  8. To enjoy and explore a romantic destination.
  9. To learn something different.
  10. To create a new, shared vision for your relationship.

Fulfilling some or all of these components on your own is certainly possible; some are an absolute necessity for a good relationship. But couples are often so busy that they save up that all-important sweetie-time for their next vacation, and then spend so much time rushing around seeing the sights that they return home exhausted and unfulfilled. The holiday may have been fun, but the relationship didn’t get what it needed.

A couples retreat workshop provides a safe framework for deepening your relationship and moving it in the direction you want it to go. There are different types of retreats to consider. For example, if your relationship is in serious trouble, you might look for one that focuses in that area.

Some retreats are church oriented, which might appeal to you. Sex may or may not be a topic discussed at such events. Some, like the Intimacy Retreats I lead with my husband, actually offer training in tantric sex, practices drawn from an ancient, Eastern spiritual teaching. An internet search will reveal numerous tantra couples retreats, marriage retreats, partnered-yoga retreats, couples meditation retreats, spa retreats, even silent retreats.

If "getting it on" and being more deeply intimate with your partner is your main motivation, you’ll want to select a couples retreat that includes private sexual time as part of the curriculum. Learning how to put more love into lovemaking can truly transform a relationship. Looking for a more substantial way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? A couples retreat might be just the thing.
