God’s Dictionary: Contrast

Contrast

contra = against     +      stare = to stand

Contrast is one of the many ways humans learn about how to live life on Earth. So often we know what we don’t want because of contrast. What we don’t want is powerful information, but many of us get stuck there. Focusing on what we don’t want creates more of the same.

This is why, even though the practice of contrast is valuable, we have to move beyond it in order to create the lives we do want. Here’s how to know when you’re stuck in contrast. It comes from Latin roots which mean to stand against.

When you stand against something, you are in resistance. Think of a scenario wherein you take a stand against and think of its polar opposite. Let’s say you’re against the politicos who are in charge of our government currently. Acknowledge your againstness and then flip it. What are you really for? Effective government? Smaller government? Laissez-faire government? It’s easier to create from a for position than an against one. Ask:  How can I be for something today?

Infinition:

I am aware of the contrast between what is and what I want. Today I focus on what I want and it makes my life easier.
