There is a wide-spread increase in the number of people using the (lemon/cayenne/maplesyrup) master cleanse these days as a long term fast. However, a person can also use it effectively in connection with other healthy, whole foods cleanses.
I have begun a 4-week cleanse and here’s how I am doing it. I am a thin person. I do not believe that Master Cleanse alone is good for naturally thin people. What you can do if you do not want to lose weight while cleansing is to use the master cleanse drinks in between an ayurvedic (or other) whole foods cleanse.
Thin body types digest cooked foods best, tons of veggies, you can add rice or quinoa, always be sure to add plenty of protein: beans and/or fresh chicken, tofu or fish to each and every dish. I like to use lots of ayurvedic spices in my cleansing dishes: ginger, garlic, turmeric, corriander, cumin, etc. Adding lots of fresh organic parsley is also nice. And cilantro is known to help remove heavy metals, though it takes a large amount, as much as you can eat.
Drink the master cleanse 1st thing in a.m. An hour later, have a wholesome, cleansing vegetable dish for breakfast (don’t forget to add a protein). At around 11am, another master cleanse drink. Noon, lunch of veggie dish or mung bean soup. Or any other cleansing dish, rich potassium broth, etc. You will find the recipes that speak to you. Then again around 5pm, a master cleanse drink, followed an hour later by another meal. Etc. You can add any herbal teas you like also.
If you do decide to go the master cleanse alone, please, only try it for a max of 2-3 days. Longer master cleanses and even raw foods diets generally work best for folks who do want to experience weight loss as well. They have a very different body type then the sensitive vata, pitta/vatas (in Ayurvedic medicine). I’m sure there are exceptions, it’s always individual, but this is an important guideline.
If you are cleansing from deeper toxins like heavy metals, or have a condition like arthritis or candida, you may wish to alter and extend a healthy food cleanse to 3 or even 6 months. It’s always an individual process. Be informed. Listen to your guidance.
