How Can We Make Intent Better for You?

It is I, Dave, your friendly neighborhood community manager — back again to ask you a very important question:

How can we make Intent better for you?

We have come a long way since our soft launch in July. Yes, we are still in beta, and we still have a few bugs to squash, but I wanted to check in with you guys to see what you have been thinking. While it is rumored I have the ability to read minds (not really), I decided to use this traditional blogging format. ;)

What do you want to see in the future? When you think of Intent two years from now, what does that picture look like? What tools can we give you to help you accomplish your intentions and fullfill your aspirations? Feature ideas? Design tips? Sound off! :)

And a big thanks to Joy, Amit, David, and many others who have been in touch recently helping us with bugs and feature request. Now if I can only hear from a few more of you! :)

About Dave

Welcome to my Intent profile! I am very excited about this website as it helps to make us all more aware of our personal, social, and global intentions- while also providing a plethora of mind expanding content. Feels more like hanging out at a yoga studio than a large auditorium. A lot of social networks allow you to meet people via your favorite things- but what about our intentions and who we are in the process of becoming? Isn't that worth focusing on?? I think so. That said, I am a very laid back person who strives to appreciate all the goodness that is around. When I get a wiff of something not so good, I try to focus on the opposite, and immediately move in that direction. Sometimes that is easier said than done, but it is what I strive for. I love the fresh air and sun. A big nature fan. I get it, and it gets me. Also a big fan of the internet and all of these new ways that we are able to communicate at lightning speeds. Always been a fan of building community and bringing the global community together in venues like this that transcend cultural barriers. You might see me around these parts pretty often as I help out with community building efforts. Please say hi, and always feel welcome to offer any feedback. I will always make sure it gets to the right people. Speaking of which, be sure to check out Mallika's awesome idea to really give this site a whirl and set an intention every day for 30 days! http://www.intent.com/mallikachopra/blog/dear-intent-community-join-me-my-30-days-intentions

    Hi Dave,

From out here it looks like everything you're doing is working, improving the site and its accessibility, but I'll think more about the question and let you know if something specific comes to mind.

In the meantime, I wanted to thank you for inviting us (the online community) into your development process. It says a great deal about who you guys are as a company and your approach to this work.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for asking us! So far, I think the site is great! You are doing a fine job with making the site user friendly and powerful. The only small request I would make is to have a place where I can see the friend requests I have made. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for these great comments! Kirsten- great idea. Will add it to our list here. :)

Something I noticed…don't know how high it will be on a priority list but I from time to time search my name on google etc to do a clean up ….make sure nothing crazy is out there bout me and see what is that I have no control over etc…and I notice my name comes up for intent member blogs I write but like this:

Praying for Tom Brady on Intent

Commemorating the Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi! from Babita Dubay … Posted by: Babita Dubay on Tuesday, September 16th,2008 …

And if you click on it you get to Gotham's post bout Tom Brady…I happened to make a comment on it so I guess that is how my name comes up there? But dont know why in the search it shows that particular blog of mine…I've seen it happen in the past where when I click it I didnt post a comment on the intent voice person' s blog either so not sure how the whole listing works. But think of it if you wanted to read the actual blog on commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's bday say it would be frustrating if u came here and couldnt see it. I guess it's cool if u find babita dubay making a comment on a another blog at least so u can click her profile and look for it. But hope you see what I mean…not sure how easy it is for you all to get to all of that like having easy access to member blogs cause I take it must be a whole lot of them!

But yea in a nutshell it should be easier to find member blogs but I know you mentioned to me you were working on that when you told me I was featured when u first started putting member blogs on the first page! I think I was the first member featured! Something you know I was so proud about..that ego:)…that ego :) Also have you Dave been reading bout my last 48 hrs or so obsession with John Denver and I during it I keep thinking…and Dave lives there on Mountain time! So there I've been thinking of ya…hmm….although you've not been mentioning me in any of your community blogs of recently! :) …that ego again….not to mention abhimaan (pride)…but yea yea I know we are all part of one community…ahmm…universal soul so! :) But still…!

Hey another thing I just realised too cause saw it happened to a user commenting on a blog I was also commenting on yesterday. You should make it possible for a person posting a comment to be able to delete it…in case they retract or which is more the case made an error or hit the add comment button before being finished by mistake etc (which was what happened to the user clear light the other day and she has posted a comment asking for admin to delete her first earlier unfinished comment.

Thanks for asking Dave, as I like all the new changes. My favorite part (i.e., tool) is the quick home page overview and the 'latest post' area comes in to a close second. Cheers, Char

I agree with Babita: Dave, as you know, I had good reason to delete some comments, and there was NO WAY! Editing would be even better, as I often catch typos AFTER I've "gone live…"

Thanks for these great suggestions guys! Most of them are in the works (like deleting your own comments and content), the rest I have added to our to-do list. :) For now, if you guys need anything deleted, feel free to shoot me a message, and I can take care of it for you till we have that feature up. Thanks guys!

Dave, it's too hard to log into the site. For some reason the site doesn't remember my name & password so I have to retype it. Also, for some reason, Firefox doesn't keep my info in those two fields–even though it does for sites like Facebook.

Thanks for giving me a place to mention this.

Thanks for letting us know, Andrew. Will look into that- may be in touch with some more questions. :)

  12. meadysmusings October 8, 2008 at 5:48 pm #

Hey Andrew but I have firefox and it works for me! Only kink I ever had in that respect with Firefox and Intent and remembering my log in info so I can do it automatically is when in the past I used to get logged in as others! In particular Prachi Patel! But I think that bug is dead now ! :) I have consistently been able to log in auto. while using firefox for some wks now without any kinks…so seems the tech guys are working! All websites auto log in stops from time to time I've found from my experiences so far….it happens with yahoo!, facebook and look just today my gmail made me log back in! So…not saying it didnt happen to you though…:)

  13. Dave October 8, 2008 at 6:11 pm #

Yep- me too, Babita. So there must be something different about Andrew's setup… Babita, are you on a mac or a pc out of curiosity?

  14. meadysmusings October 8, 2008 at 9:44 pm #

pc…could be that Andrew needs to look into dem cookies and the java on his puter! :)

  15. Dave October 9, 2008 at 11:26 am #

He is on a mac- I am thinking it is a mac/firefox issue. :) Thanks, Babita!

Got another Dave (sorry if someone already posted it): There's no easy way to get back to my profile from the "search results" page.

    Thanks for caring.

    James

Thanks for chiming in, James. :) I see what you mean. Will see what we can do. In the meantime, your best bet is to click the home icon on the main toolbar, and then click 'go to your profile'. Thanks again for pointing that out!

Virginia Fey– The site never remembers my name & password either. But one thing I just noticed is that I can't delete a comment from someone else to My Intent if I want to. I just got a cryptic one that just doesn't feel right to me, though I don't know I could say it is offensive.
