Sameer,
Thank you for raising my awareness that you can not vote. Those of us born here really have a privilege that we can not take granted.
Sameer once my cousin in the UK who came out first on our island in his year in exams and first in all his classes at Imperial college etc and now works in investment banking in London told me one of the reasons he loves the UK and has never considered the US as a home is cause in the UK he can vote even though he is not a citizen…I never forgot that bit of info….I happened to be visiting friends and family in London in 2005 when they were having elections and its how the topic came up cause I was surprised he was allowed to vote then…I kinda knew more than them on some issues as Londoners as I was at my friends and they home some mornings watching the BBC while they were out busy working! I remember quite getting into the whole reason the UK was so against many of the EU initiatives and the whole thing bout EU farming subsidies then I realised no wonder I saw so many of those flowers all over the countryside off the highways apparently at the time that was a heavily funded EU initiative…I cant remember now what plant type of plant it was though…some kinda oil I think. How long have you been living in the US for?
Hey Babita, Thanks for responding. I have been in the US for the past 7 years. I am also surprised at UK's policy of giving immigrants an opportunity to vote. The thing here in the US is – even permanant residents do not get an opportunity to vote and the other thing you might know already – you have to be a born American to run for the office. duh!
Thanks Mark. Appreciate your reply. Yeah – you gotta be grateful for what you have, which brings me to the point that I am just to have lived in this great country.
Thanks again!
Sameer,
Thanks for your thoughts from another perspective. Let us never take this right and duty for granted. My son the Marine and the rest of our Military put their lives on the line each day to protect our right to think and speak our own thoughts! God Bless America!
