I Wonder if Know Him

I Wonder if I Know Him

I wonder if I know him

In whose speech is my voice,

In whose movement is my being,

Whose skill is in my lines,

Whose melody is in my songs

In joy and sorrow.

I thought he was chained within me,

Contained by tears and laughter,

Work and play.

I thought he was my very self

Coming to an end with my death.

Why then in a flood of joy do I feel him

In the sight and touch of my beloved?

This ‘I’ beyond self I found

On the shores of the shining sea.

Therefore I know

This ‘I’ is not imprisoned within my bounds.

Losing myself, I find him

Beyond the borders of time and space.

Through the Ages

I come to know his Shining Self

In the life of the seeker,

In the voice of the poet.

From the dark clouds pour the rains.

I sit and think:

Bearing so many forms, so many names,

I come down, crossing the threshold

Of countless births and deaths.

The Supreme undivided, complete in himself,

Embracing past and present,

Dwells in Man.

Within Him I shall find myself-

The ‘I’ that reaches everywhere.

-a poem by Rabindranath Tagore

    Hi Greg,

I don’t know if I believe in a personal God–one who directs the lives of all six billion of us. But I try to see traces of the Divine in people’s faces and in their actions. Sometimes I’ve wiitnessed actions of such compassion or courage that I have to swallow hard and wipe the film from my eyes. That keeps me going.

I envy you, Greg–you’re a man of great faith, confident in your convictions. Maybe I’ll achieve that state someday. I hope so.

    Best regards,

    Bob

Dear Vashi: Thank you for your beautiful reflection. Also thank you for explaining the affix “Ji.” I have loved India and her people all of my life and never knew the meaning of this appendage to a name. Love, Greg

Dear Noreen: Thank you for the beautiful Rumi quote. I share a love for him with you.
    Love, Greg

Dear Adriana: I agree with you, Tagore literally makes me feel movement within. I hope you and your family are well, especially Pedro. Love, Greg

Dear Sara: It is nice hearing from you. I am grateful for our new friendship and your presence here. Love, Greg

Dear Bob: I don’t believe in a God who directs our lives either. I believe in a God who supports and loves us as we make choices. I love Tagore Bob, in his appreciation for the potential of humans to achieve unity with Infinite Being, I believe he was much closer to the mind and heart of Jesus of Nazareth than any Christian thinker. In terms of faith and convictions, it is I who appreciate your example Bob. Surviving cancer and dealing with some of the loss issues you have navigated required courage and faith. When I read stories like yours, I dare to hope in the power of a loving God and the potential of the human spirit. Love, Greg

Thanks for the great poem here Greg. When I was reading it I was not just thinking about "him". I was somehow thinking about "her" too. I am in love with one porn star at the moment. Her name is Audrey Bitoni. She has beautiful body and I wish to meet her one pretty day. This poem helped me to understood how much I love her and that the life is beautiful for sure. Thanks one more time for posting it here Greg and I will be waiting for more nice stuff from you in the future too.

In a round about way, I think about this a lot. I am myself only around myself. In a crowd of people I am who they want me to be. It's not by choice, but by nature. I feel as if most people act in this way. Being able to find your inner self, and continue to connect with it, isn't always easy. What helped me find myself was vacation bible school. Finding God, you will be able to find yourself.
