Intent Video of the Day: Real Men Do Yoga

“Thanks to yoga, I’m in my seventies and feeling that I can accomplish anything… I don’t feel old. ”

Contrary to the images you may see portrayed in the mainstream media, yoga isn’t just for young, fit women. This video features older men from very diverse backgrounds talking about  the way yoga has influenced their lives. According to the filmmakers, 18.4 percent of yoga practitioners are now over age 55. The latest research suggests that a regular asana practice can reduce chronic back pain, improve sleep and mood, support cardiac health, and lead to an overall greater sense of health and well-being. Yoga is for everyBODY.

Everyday we spotlight one remarkable video to inspire you to fulfill your intentions and improve your life. Do you have a video you’d like to suggest? Send it to us at editor [at] intent.com.

  1. I love this video — although I think there are real men who don’t practice yoga too. 😛

So often the image of the yogi in the mainstream media is a young, fit, white woman… and it’s not that there is anything wrong with that, but I find a lot of value in making an effort to represent the full spectrum of diversity represented in this population. The fact is, even if you are a young, healthy woman practicing yoga (guilty as charged), you won’t always be! All of us get older, bigger, weaker, etc. Hopefully this practice will be just as valuable — if not more so — then. Videos like this, I think, portray a more honest and relevant image of the practice. Love it!
