It should be noted that many low-income families do not have access to cooking equipment or have parents who are balancing multiple jobs, making it difficult to find time to prepare a meal. That said, a growing number of nonprofit organizations (e.g. Cooking Matters) are teaching parents how to select nutritious and low-cost ingredients and prepare them in a way that provides the greatest nourishment possible for their families.
