Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey have written an editorial on CNN about children and autism. Jenny’s son, Evan, was diagnosed with autism. More remarkably, he has recovered from the debilitating disorder through a combination of diet, medical treatments and therapy. Last year, I had the honor of having a public dialogue with Jenny, and I was blown away by her intelligence, compassion, determination and courage to speak about her son’s illness. For me, it was the first time I was exposed — even though I am a parent who has been warned about the potential links of certain immunizations and autism — to the dialogue, debate and controversy around autism in this country.
In her CNN article, Jenny says:
“We believe what helped Evan recover was starting a gluten-free, casein-free diet, vitamin supplementation, detox of metals, and anti-fungals for yeast overgrowth that plagued his intestines. Once Evan’s neurological function was recovered through these medical treatments, speech therapy and applied behavior analysis helped him quickly learn the skills he could not learn while he was frozen in autism.”
She continues:
“After we implemented these therapies for one year, the state re-evaluated Evan for further services. They spent five minutes with Evan and said, ‘What happened? We’ve never seen a recovery like this.’
Evan is now 5 years old and what might surprise a lot of you is that we’ve never been contacted by a single member of the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, or any other health authority to evaluate and understand how Evan recovered from autism. When Evan meets doctors and neurologists, to this day they tell us he was misdiagnosed — that he never had autism to begin with. It’s as if they are wired to believe that children can’t recover from autism.
So where’s the cavalry? Where are all the doctors beating down our door to take a closer look at Evan? We think we know why they haven’t arrived.”
Jenny continues to expound upon pharmaceutical businesses and the vast number of immunizations received by children (36) before the age of 2.
Autism is an “environmental illness.” It presents the tangled hierarchy of the environment, disease and business — all linked to the wellness of our precious children.
**Editor’s note: Due to Jenny McCarthy’s insistence that children diagnosed with autism not be addressed as “autistic,” Arnie Kleiner of KABC-TV in Los Angeles has enacted a new rule for the affiliate station to no longer use “austistic” to describe children with the disorder.

Wow, thanks for posting that! It brought chills and tears. I knew her son had autism, but I hadn't heard yet that he recovered from it.
Hi , I am basically from India and have been living for past 6 years in US and when i see TV or read about autism i start feeling why is autism not present in India or Africa or for that matter any developing or under developed country and i feel the answer to this is that autism is not a disease but a creation of developed world to leave behind kids who dont fall under their strict brackets of rules of behaviour or conduct and it starts right from home when parents are not so caring just becuase they also are in developed world and cant show the real love and affection which a growing child needs . I feel the same kid if was born in any asian/african country would have lived a perfectly normal life without parents / teachers / friends putting them under microscope and making them a test case .
Really feel pity for these kids who in someway appear are much purer and really gifted to an outsider but whom the western world treats as not their own .
My intent is to spread the message to all parents/ teachers and other shcool kids to to forget or brainwash from their minds that there is anything like autism and start treating people as creation of god who come in different shapes and colours . Whereas some need more money more power more of everything to survive these kids just need more love and they will give you wonders in return if you have a real eye for it .
Hi Care for all,
Psychological /Psychiatric problems exist more in refrence to geographic areas.Tropical weathers have less such problems .Even Africa doesnt have much of problems.
North european , north american and extreme cold weather , less day light time , above all genetics are all contributing factors to varying degree.
Recent survey told that an adequate dose of Vitamin D is protective to kids prone to MS , you see ,that is exactly what indians dont need to bother in comparison to westerners considering adequate sun -exposure keeps on synthesizing Vitamin D even when u dont administer it in diet, so that saves them from risk of MS.
In india Autism does exist but is actually drastically less in proportion , so stands for ADHD, MS and few others. Moreover there is another factor which cant be ignored, is that In India , probably many cases go unreported.
But discarding this entity as dream of western world wont do any good to anyone.
And i agree with you on one ground that Love , support can work wonders always. But going through an additional medical help can do 'additional' wonders in presence of love.
