Karma and Forgiveness

 Question:

First of all I want to thank you from my heart very much for changing my life. You put the light on my way to get to know God better than ever! Your words are just the message that God ever wanted me to know!

I have a question for long time:

In the law of karma what happens when you have been a "bad boy" for a long time, or you haven´t been who you must be (as a good father, as a fried, as a human being) but with the time you realize you have made things wrong and you regret it and decide you have and want to change your thoughts and your form of living and you become a new spiritual human being.

Does it affect somehow your karma, I mean the responsibility you have to take your acts before you change your thoughts? What role does forgiveness play in all this?

I hope you can understand my question. Your inspiration helped me to start writing in English, but I have to practice more.
With love from Colombia.

Answer:

The karma of previous actions that returns to us is a simple law of the universe. What we have control over is our level of consciousness, our degree of freedom from identification with our ego. The more we are identified with our higher Self and not identified with the ego or the actor, then the more we are free from the binding influence of our past actions.

Forgiveness can play a large role in this because as we learn to forgive others and ourself, we come into a deeper understanding of our true Self. We recognize that our essential nature is not defined or identified with those actions, and we see the actions of the past from a more awakened perspective.

This is really the deeper significance of the repentance and metanoia. Our consciousness is transformed from the ego perspective of blame, shame and judgment to the truth of love, grace and forgiveness.

Love,
Deepak

I love reading your posts, but am having an issue with your banner ads. I use an RSS feed reader (News Gator) to manage all the blogs I follow and most now have banner ads in the feed, which is OK by me (I used to be in the online ad business!). However, the house ad you use (for your "New Online Program") is animated on a continuous loop that makes reading your feed almost impossible due to the distraction of the animation.

It is generally bad form to use a continuous loop like this and high quality sites like Yahoo won't allow ads with them to run. Please ask your creative team to modify these ads.

    Thanks and Namaste.

    Dear Mr. Deepak,

I hope that it is okay for me to write under this title and article as I do know that you have a section for Micheal which is so very wonderful . I have read your most wonderful ,loving ,inspiring, kind words in another article about Micheal that has lead me to this website, though I have already and always been a longtime admirer of the gift of knowledge and wisdom that has been bestowed upon you. I hope that you do not mind that I am writing under this section to you about Micheal, whom I have also always adored, and admired so greatly, he like you both are such special persons that the world doesnt come across everyday, we have to treasure people like yourself and Micheal while we are blessed to have you amongst us. I suppose also as a pschic by birth I can also see even the extra wonderful gifts that you have and as well Micheal has and had . I have chosen to write to you here because I would like to be sure that you read my letter to you .

I would like to understand with all of the doctors having known and been aware that Micheal could have taken perhaps pain tablets, why had they chosen to procede in the manner in which they did? Strong medical grade pain medications cause an extreme relaxation of all of the body parts and as well the body's functions and organs and as well effects the brain which controls the bodys complete function ; so, it would have been impossible to revive Micheal with CPR. I have previously taken two semesters of studies in the medical field before begginning studies in another area, and it seems to me that any knowledgable doctor would have known that once a very strong substance has been FULLY absorbed into ones system like a high strength, medical or hospital grade of anesthesia that they would have know that CPR was not going to revive Micheal and would have placed him IMMEDIATELY onto a respirator or special breathing aparatus to breath for him and to keep his bodily organs and functions healthy until the effects of whatever may have been taken wore off, and, perhaps also during that time given him an immediate blood transfusion while still on the respirator, which is possible to have done, relieving Micheal's body of all of the contaminated blood still existing in his system. These intensive drugs do produce a type of coma effect once taken and completely absorbed , but that effect that puts the brain asleep can wear off with time , this is possible, if this were or is the possible cause of Micheals loss, which there are many things there that were occurring around Micheal. I just do not understand this at all as to why the Doctors did not make this particular medical decision, some patients in a comatose state will eventually awaken and begin breathing again on their own . This action should have been taken immediately. I am terribly saddened with all of my heart that Micheal is not with us Deepak. I can see in ones eyes all things and as well sometimes the things from the furture and the past, my mother has told to me not to share this blessing with all person because many people sometimes are upset because they do not understand how someone can see so precisely the things from persons, but Micheal and you both have such a radiant light of white energy and brilliant rays of sun that radiate around you, and then I see these rays of light like upon a horizon or so it so wonderful just seeing that. I so wish that sweet, little Micheal ,though, were still physically here with us ,you know Mr. Deepak, the world is somehow seeming so empty without such persons as Micheal, Luciano Pavoratti, Gianfranco Ferrer , Lady Diana, such wonderful persons . There are still a few , very few rare persons who seem to come around and appear in the life and touch our lives with their speaical gifts as you do and that grace the world with their smiles, love and inspirations ,wisdom, guidance and knowledge.

I too hope that I can find my Dharma, whatever it is. I hope to also follow this inborn path of Dharma that you speak of which I have never thought of doing before, but I think that this must be part of the road or path that will lead me to my destiny. Oh, Deepak, I keep turning the TV on and the internet hoping to see that this with Micheal just isn't so….. My heart is so hurt with all the things that I have seen occurring in my visions and cards all around him. I so wish that we all could bring him back here amongst us as he was .I saw also the last time when I looked into his cards and also by envisioning that for some reason he had began to worry about time,I dont know what that meant. Well,God Bless You Deepak, and also to Micheal and to Micheal's Family! This all hurts so deeply not to see Micheal amongst us and I know for you in your eyes from the interview that you did ,it hurts you too and hurts so very deeply the family of Micheal ..I just can't imagine.,

To Micheal– you are so loved you sweet little God's Angel that has graced this world with your overflowing and loving ways and genuine heart and God-given talent and blessings…you tried and wanted to spread a rare type of love and happiness to all and in no way did you ever do wrong to anyone, you were just too pure to ever do any wrong to anyone ,I see that Micheal ,you will be forever missed a type of missing that with the thought of you touches inside at the core of my heart and all of those who love you genuinely for you the wonderful person Micheal that you are and were here on this earth . God Be With You Always!

    love Ellie

I have found that my "bad karma" – mistakes I have made that have hurt other people, are my teachers. They cause me to realize how I could, out of ignorance or anger or even desire, hurt someone, even when it is not my conscious intention. This helps me to develop forgiviness, for I realize more and more how it is that someone can do bad things. I begin to see that when someone does it to me – I could have been them. So I find that my karma is in fact my dharma (my road to enlightenment). In looking in on the bad things I have done, and coming to understand them, I am developing an ability to understand others who do bad things to me.

"With love from Columbia" is right in seeing that the spiritual path is a process. As long as I still have problems to work on, I am still on the road to enlightenment. Every problem is an opportunity for me to recommit to my path. Every time I recommit, and do the work, my "compassion" grows. My ability to truly forgive – myself and others.

It is good to realize when you have done something wrong. This is progress on the path. This IS the path.

    Deepak,

Tonite, your words of truth reminds me of the sound of my favorite mountain stream.

"free from the binding influence of our past actions"……or "go, and sin no more"

I think I understand…. that experiencing undue suffering from past events is analogous to a flower attempting to un-blossom……or pushing a wave back into the sea.

It is there…..I own it……now it is a supercharged stone to be cast off into the cosmos….

    hallelujah !!

this is the crux of self-forgiveness….the way to self-realization and peace in our day

it is the answer I had..but could not recognize it as mine

    Thank you, my brother….
