Laura and Euna in North Korea http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hM96sRn69bkN1XDLqb2_pkmFxqdgD98KSJ500
I didn’t sleep well last night thinking of Laura and Euna in a detention camp in North Korea. All the thoughts of Australian detention centers and a place like the East Perth lock up, where one of my sons spent 48 hours kept coming through my mind. And then someone who we meditate with at the TM center had recently been working with someone who had been through Abu Ghraib and who would have to go back to Iraq because he could not
settle into Australia after such experiences. In some of the Australian detention centers, people are put into
metal shackles and put into isolation blocks, called Charlotte Block A.
While we should all stay positive and sing ‘heaven on earth’ in our hearts, it is also a time of solemn realism
about the way humans treat other humans on this earth, and what we should be doing about it. Firstly we should demand total transparency to all governments all over the world to allow access, photographs
and health workers into all places where people are being held as ‘criminals.’ As anyone knows who is working in the field of human rights, whether someone is a ‘criminal’ or not depends entirely on the government who defines what ‘criminality’ is. Of course we need laws and fair legislation all over the world but this fairness is often skewed in favour of bent governments who simply want to use human beings as political leverage, as is the case with Laura and Euna.
I think we should all visualise their well being each day, and visualise them being treated with care and respect, and that their personal sanctity remain untouched, that they are fed and clothed properly, and that they will be allowed contact with their parents, friends, husbands and family.
Meanwhile everyone should be writing to local government to ensure that negotiations with North Korea will not affect their safety in any way.
My heart goes out to their parents and friends when I remember how every second dragged on when our own son was taken hostage in the East Perth Lock up…and then let out with all charges dropped 48 hours later. It was a nightmare.
We need to pray for their continuing safety.

dear marcia,
i completely, absolutely agree with your points. i am not an expert of "security measures" but a certain level of transparency should be demanded about the condition of the prisoners and the facilities they are provided with.
Wish you love, peace and happiness.
