Law of Attraction and Karma

Question for Deepak:

If you can please answer this for me ….how does the law of karma square up with law of attraction, because law of attraction says anything can be achieved, which would mean even evil doers do not have to pay for their deeds  ?

Answer from Deepak:
For those who might be unfamiliar with these ideas, the basic idea of the law of attraction is thoughts have a power or energy that can attract like energy. That if you know what you want, ask for, are receptive and behave as if it’s coming, then it will come. Karma means action–all kinds of action, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. The law of karma tells us that those actions have consequences in time, both in the short term and the long term.
The law of karma contains the principles of the attraction in that what you put your intention upon will create an effect—your intended outcome. But what the law of attraction doesn’t factor in is what are the preexisting effects of your past thoughts and behavior on your present desires. We don’t enter life as a blank slate, we come in with our own particular history and past tendencies, and that circumscribes what we are likely to manifest, regardless of how fervently we practice the laws of attraction. For instance, if you are a short, stocky 35 year-old who wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, it’s not going to happen. The present karma in place that is playing out makes this possibility an impractical use of attention. The law of attraction works as an effective tool of manifestation when one has determined that the other karmic factors are already favorable or if not, that they are minor enough to be overcome with with some diligence and dicipline.
Love,
Deepak

Comparing Law of Attraction to Law of Karma is like comparing the Earning a CPA to Common Civil Legal Code! Earning a CPA will enhance your chances of making money, but your actions as a CPA are BOUND within the overall Common Civil Legal Code.

Similarly, Law of Karma is the overall relationship between Action and Result. Law of Attraction is basically a statement of Desire and its accomplishment. In fact if one looks honestly, the creation of the concept of God is basically to facilitate the satisfaction of Desires… for God, as human-kind has defined Him/It through the history, has primarily served as a glorified restaurant waiter – we ask of Him.. if he delivers he gets "tips" (read "our faith"), if He does not he gets rebuke (atheism or skepticism). Religion is an organized form of "Law of Attraction", basically!

Great, we have to be choosy towards law of attraction. We need to know our karmic factors. Friends let us teach each other about our karmic factors and use the law of attraction along with our karma for better results.

    Wow

    Love you

Yes, we are born with attached energy from previous lifetimes, along with the energy frequencies given to us from our ancestors, plus parallel life integrations, added to collective universal vibrations. Whew- it's a wonder we can move with all that denseness weighing on us!

As a Healing Arts Practitioner, that's my job. Clean and clear my own energy field to be the bright beautiful closest I can possibly be to source self. Then, help others get themselves cleared up. I love it! Won't work on anyone not willing to do their part.

Off to meditate now… getting the karmic windex…

Thank you Deepak. Ouch, this can be hard to accept, but I can see that it's obviously true in what we all experience or see in this world or ours.

I so wish, I could figure it all out or at least see before me and accept that picture, if I have too – so maybe that's my issue?

    Cheers,

Finally someone addressing the relationship of karma to LOA. Old souls have so much karmic baggage they are hauling around and because of it tons of anger. So if you're really an old soul it's really hard to manifest what you really want 'cause you're so pissed off about having to do all this again for the zillionth time. It's just so darn hard!

That's where the surrender part comes in…

So much love to you all,

i wonder if this also means that what you give attention too 'manifests' . let me explain..when i had my interlude with Sai Baba i 'found' all things necessary to support my then belief in the God Guru. When i focussed on Native American teachings i came across so many teachings/information to support these ideas. i mean that when i embarked on a journey of 'x' then 'x' appeared at seemingly every turning. what i saw supported whichever belief or idea that i had at the time. over time it occurred to me of the observer effect, that what one hopes or wishes either consciously or unconsciously to appear , does. Many experiments have been done on x, y and z and it seems to me that whoever is conducting the experiments 'can' influence the results. if i harbour a belief that x is bad for someone and conduct experiments it seems most likely that i will arrive at a conclusion that supports my 'belief'. This i believe is why we have so many contrary results in experiments, it it because each person who does the experiment carries with them their expectation of the result that confirms their individual belief and they truly can 'influence' the results. it's like Schroeders

cat, it is both alive and dead but until you open the box you won't know, le's hope that if you open the box you have the belief the cat is still alive!

Below are some of my favorite quotes on Karma written by Deepak

    ————————————————————————

"The laws of nature that are responsible for carrying out the karma of any particular action are all based in the subtlest impulses of our consciousness. By going within and experiencing self-referral consciousness, we allow the karmic debt to be normalized within the silent dynamism of our awareness, without having to pay off the karma in the physical world."

From a Christian point of view, the idea of "confession" and "forgiveness" may represent changing karma. By fully understanding the rule of action and consequence, perhaps we get to "pass go" without beating ourselves up in guilt and pay back. Perhaps giving ourselves over to compassion and willingness jettisons us beyond the mire that keeps us forever in the cycle of karma. It may be the story of Christ rising is about the psyche transmuting beyond the mundane in which karma traps us. It may not be easy; it may look miraculous; there may be some non-believers–but that, I believe, is the piece about Faith and the mustard seed. No doubt. Simple but not easy.

Law of karma comes from one shloka in Bhagwad Gita which is, in my view, certainly the most misunderstood. In that shloka, Krishna tells Arjun to do his Action and NOT have "Asakti" or attachment to the result.

Several commentators translate it as "Do Action but not worry about the result" .. in my view that is as nonsensical as it can possibly get!

Now, to fully understand this.. ask your self .. when you say you want to "Do Good" …. what do you mean? Are you saying you want to do an action that leads to "good" result? If so, then ask yourself – Is "Good" an adjective to the Action … or the Result? If you seriously question yourself, you will come to realize that Action has NO adjective! Action is COLORLESS!

Strangely all those who assert they want to "do good" also assert that only "God" can "ensure" anything. So, they obviously speak in two different ways.. no one can "Do Good".. for the Result of any Action is NOT the prerogative of the doer!

It is also not the prerogative of the "God". If it was, then God would be bound by the Law of Karma also!

Now, in Gita, besides talking about Law of Karma, Krishna also tells us that we need to go beyond Maya or illusion – which is "Trigunmayi" (of three Gunas.. or characters).. the Good (Sattvik), the Neutral (Rajasik) and the Bad (Tamasik). Going BEYOND all these Gunas. .. is going beyond Maya.

Therefore EVEN if God, in his Infinite Piety was to do "Good", he would be bound by Maya! So God, CANNOT, by definition "do" anything!

How do you go beyond the 'Circle of Karma'? By breaking the link between Action And Result. Our Actions are not actions.. but reactions. They have their own results. When we do NOT bring the baggage of the results (or sum total of the past Karmas) to an "event" or a moment…. then in that moment we are set free!

This is PRECISELY what Krishnamurti also said. In fact JK spent his whole life defining how to break free of Law of Karma in an entirely new way…. which, nevertheless was TOTALLY in consonance with Krishna's Gita… and still no one really paid attention!

I personally reject the Inertia effect that is usually linked to Law of Karma – where we are told that "soul" (or basically sum total of our Karmas/deeds/thoughts .. all synonyms) takes its time to "dissipate" the baggage of Karma. The results of past action (or Sanchit Karmas) will be faced by a person.. but THAT does not make you BOUND by those results. What sets you free is when your Actions are NOT linked to the Results of your past actions! That can happen anytime! Infact a person who is living (getting to face results of past karmas) AND Free is known as Jivan mukta (or free from "life"). Such a person's Karmas are still "hitting" him… but he is no more affected.. as he has freed himself of the link between Action and Result.. and is no longer creating new Result-creating-Karma/Action!

That's how simple it is. There is no ambiguity anywhere.

I would like to propose that the difference between the Law of Attraction and the Law of Karma is this – nothing.

The perceived differences that we get caught up in relate purely to the differences in definitions that we apply to the concepts themselves. One guru says 'karma is this' and another says 'law of attraction is that' and then the disparity between the two resides in the degree to which people listen to this guru or that.

But the truth is words are limited, whilst the nature of principle remains true – regardless of how we view the principle in relation to our words.

Deepak mentions, "…the basic idea of the law of attraction is thoughts have a power or energy that can attract like energy….Karma means action–all kinds of action, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual." Yet, the Law of Attraction is thought and action based (and in fact, hairs can be split as thoughts are energetic actions of consciousness), and thoughts and actions are symbiotic with the mental and the physical, the form and the formless. There is no separation between thought, action, mental, physical, the emotional or the spiritual.

The Law of Attraction is not localized to one human life, it is a principle of consciousness. Karma is not localized to one human life, it is a principle of consciousness. Both draw into your life that which you place your attention upon. Both bring to you reflections of the predominate thoughts of your mind, and the predominate actions of your body. Both influence your consciousness through form and the formless. Both are relative to the action and reaction of both the form and the formless.

Deepak says, "..what the law of attraction doesn

"because law of attraction says anything can be achieved, which would mean even evil doers do not have to pay for their deeds ?"

Actually just the opposite is true!! If an evil doer sets a destructive goal, the law of karma states that the evildoer will be destroyed if he succeeds in his endeavor. A great way to make sure your goals are "karmicaly sane" is to check your heart for comfort/discomfort messages regarding the intended goal. Sometime, out of pure ignorance(not evil!) people set goals which turn out to harm them, rather than benefit them, because they haven
