So by now you have hopefully been able to identify some of the stories that you have about your body, yourself, and your life. Now the question becomes – How do I change this story?
Our lives are nothing other than our stories about ourselves. The stories we have about ourselves create our lives, and the stories we have about ourselves also influence our bodies in profound ways. Numerous scientific studies document that what we think and feel actually impacts the body on a cellular level. The answer to the question – How do I change this story? – is a two-part process, where each part is interwoven, one with the other. You have already taken an important step in the last post – you have realized that you are telling yourself a story. This awareness is an essential first step. Now the two-step process for transforming your story is:1. Consciously change the story you have about your body and yourself by using the power of your mind.2. Discover and experience that part of yourself that is altogether beyond your mind. These two elements go together because, in my experience, you cannot fix a problem from the same level that you created the problem. You cannot heal your mind by remaining solely at the level of the mind. It is when you access that part of yourself that is beyond the mind, that true healing can occur. This realm beyond the mind has been called different names in different traditions, and described in different ways.Ultimately, though, this realm cannot be described, it can only be experienced. It cannot be described because any description is by necessity a product of the mind, since describing is a function of the mind. When you experience this realm, directly, however, it naturally and spontaneously brings about a change in your awareness that will help you heal your mind, heal your body, and transform your story. I will be discussing this realm in more detail in subsequent posts, but for now, let’s get concrete. Here is a simple and easy process to help you transform your story, your body, and your life:Question: How do I change the story I have about my body and myself?Answer #1: Set an IntentionNow if you are already familiar with the power of intention, this might seem obvious. But keep reading to learn how to maximize the power of your intentions in your life. For anyone who is not yet intimately familiar with the notion of intention, the idea is that when you consciously set an intention, you can harness the power of the universe to help you fulfill that intention or that desire. If you struggle with negative beliefs, thoughts, and feelings about your body and yourself, however, there is an overwhelming tendency to create intentions from a place of self-denigration, meaning your intentions are shrouded in the subtle belief of not quite being good enough. In my experience, intentions have much more power if they come from a place of affirming your inherent goodness, beauty, and strength. With that in mind, here is a short-list of attributes of successful intentions:
- Powerful intentions are all-inclusive, meaning they accept every part of yourself and affirm your inherent beauty, goodness, value and self-worth.
- They are all accepting, honoring yourself in your beautiful uniqueness.
- They are based on trust instead of fear.
- You remain detached, resting in the peace that they will manifest when the time is right and that all is being orchestrated with utmost perfection.
I have personally found the following phraseology to be incredibly powerful and effective in actualizing your intentions:“I allow [insert name] to experience, create, etc. [insert whatever intention is]Example: I allow Shirley to create a physical body that is the perfect weight to ensure maximal health and well-being.The reason this is so powerful is because the more you can get out of the way, the more power your intentions have. The more you let a force greater than yourself, meaning your small ego-based self, flow through you, the more you will harness the creative power of the universe, without any effort on your part.Phrasing intentions in this way helps you to remember that who you are is not limited to the present body-mind that goes by your current name. It helps you to remember that who you truly are is an infinite field of power and possibility. It also helps you get out of the way and allow that which you truly are to guide and orchestrate your life. It will help you become aware of how your small self, the person that you imagine yourself to be, might be blocking the power that you truly are and preventing it from helping you create a life that you love. The power of intention is the power of love. If you want your intentions to yield maximum results, create them to affirm your inherent greatness, beauty, and glory and to support everyone else in discovering and experiencing the same.Ready to begin your journey?
