Life purpose is wriggly, jiggly and all-around giggly. Just when you think you have caught him firmly in your grasp, he slinks away and hides behind the very thing you do not want in your life — that very thing that you have been avoiding — that very thing that you are just not willing to face. Yup, he’s is a jokester all right.
Dressed in his red jester cap, with an annoying little grin, he skulks behind your fear of money, your fear that you are not good enough, your fear that you are just dreaming; and, with a maniacal laugh, he beckons, “Come and get me. I’m yours for the taking.”
“You want me to go through that mess to get you?” you shout in disbelief. “I don’t think so,” you declare, your arms akimbo with your hips swaying back and forth.
“Fine, then,” he replies with a shrug of his shoulders, “live your mediocre life. Live a life that you know, in your heart, is not fulfilling. It’s no skin off my back. I’m happy with you or without you.”
“W-wait a minute. You’re MY life purpose. Don’t I get to boss you around?”
“Nope. It is irrelevant to me whether you find me or not. It is you that will suffer without me in your life, not vice-versa.”
“B-but what about all those things standing in front of you?” You point to the clutter in disgust. “I can’t quit my job. I just can’t! My husband would kill me, my kids…”
“Blah, blah, blah,” he yawns. “I’ve been hearing the same thing for forty years. I just can’t… Well, what if you could? What if all your reasons have blocked you from simply choosing? What is it you WANT?” He clears a path and peeks out a curious glance.
“What is it I WANT?” you pause to think. Is it possible to have what I want?
“Yes, it is!” Great, he’s a mind-reader, too. “I’m sick of all your reasons weighing me down and preventing me from doing the very thing I am put here to do – make you happy. All day long, I drag around your lazy-ass fears. Well, lady, I’m done. Do you want to live your life purpose or not?”
