Live Your Dream Life: 4 Tips for Extreme Well Being

In 15 years of helping thousands of people from 50+ countries experience more well-being, I’ve recognized some patterns that can help you live your dream life.  When it comes down to it, it doesn’t matter what your life circumstances are, it matters how you perceive and respond to them.  Here are 4 tips for having more fun, experiencing more joy and feeling more love and grace in life, regardless of your circumstances:

1.  Choose a purpose:  I doesn’t matter exactly "what" it is, as long as it is an expression of who you authentically are.  It’s not so much about what you do, it is about how you will show up…your "soul’s style" if you will, in this physical world.  Your mission is what you do.  Your purpose is the way you express yourself in service to others.  How do you want to be in the world?  Choose a style and live into it.  You can always change your style as you evolve.

2.  Recognize your dominant emotions:  Emotions direct your biochemistry and life-force or "chi" in your body.  They are the nexus between mind and body, and the emotions that you feel most often shape the type of actions that you will take   What emotions are you feeling most often?  What helps you feel the emotions that you like more?  What do you do to avoid the emotions that you don’t like?  What can you do instead that helps you express your purpose?  For example:  Do you just eat or watch TV when you’re frustrated or sad…or do you feel the emotion and use it to propel you to a different, more constructive action?

3.  Observe your thoughts, beliefs, stories and values:  Your sense of "self" is merely a selected remembering of past events and exeperiences.  Once you understand this, then you realize that you get to make up who you are!  You can choose what to focus on, what it means to you, what your roles are, what your standards are etc.  You make the rules for how you’re going to experience life!  To live your dream life you’ve just got to have a "story" or belief that makes your dreams tangible and reachable, otherwise they stay "dreams".

4.  Define the actions that must happen:  If you’re not living your dream life, then to create your dream life you’ve likely got to "do" different stuff than you’re already doing (or do it in a different way).  Action that stems from a reactive, defensive state doesn’t serve others in most cases, therefore it won’t fulfill your purpose.  Action that stems from strong emotions, associated with your purpose, and supported by stories or beliefs that parallel your dream-life will help you fulfill your purpose.

The formula that I see for people living their dream life:  They seek to add value, serve or contribute to others in some way.  They learn to channel their emotions (whether challenging or enjoyable) into constructive action.  They create a story about themselves that keeps them excited and passionate about life.  They do lots of stuff that’s in alignment with their purpose and very little stuff that’s not.
