Dictionaries define vacations as 1) a period of time devoted to pleasure, rest, or relaxation, especially one with pay granted to an employee, 2) a holiday, and 3) a fixed period of holidays, especially one during which a school, court, or business suspends activities.
What’s important is how YOU define your time off. I propose that in order to succeed, the body and mind need rest and relaxation to refuel. This is not a novel idea, but one to think about if you view vacations as frivolous or self-indulgent.
The benefits from vacations go much deeper than fun in the sun, good restaurants, entertainment, and shopping. Vacations give you the opportunity to “vacate” from routine and enter a new environment in mind and spirit to rejuvenate and gain a fresh perspective.
It is important to choose vacations wisely. When you need more stimulation and activity, choose a more active vacation. When rest and healing is necessary, opt for a more relaxing slower paced experience.
Remember that the distance and cost of the vacation need not be major factors. Traveling 20 miles or 2000 miles for a vacation can have the same positive results. It’s the quality of the vacation, the environment you choose, and the resolution to leave your cares and worries at home that determine your ability to relax, rejuvenate and revive your hopes and dreams.
About PositiveLiving
A pioneer and trailblazer for positive media messaging; author, inspiring public speaker, entrepreneur, and visionary broadcast producer and host, Patricia Raskin, M.Ed. has given voice through the airwaves to help people overcome obstacles and challenges in their lives to help make their dreams come true!
Before it was popular to use media as the platform to deliver messages of optimism and hope for the future, Patricia took to the airwaves and led the way with her “positive living” television programs in a small town in Massachusetts in the mid-1980s. She was convinced that if she could deliver the message and the methods to an audience of viewers and listeners, that she could be the catalyst for positive change in the lives of others – a vision that is her life’s work, and that which gave birth to the Positive Living™ radio talk show franchise, one of the nation’s most popular, lifestyle destination radio programs – online, on air, and on demand.
Along the way, she has written two books, Success, Your Dream and You and Pathfinding: Seven Principles for Positive Living, produced and hosted over 500 television shows and documentaries interviewed nearly 900 radio guests, and written 700 newspaper columns. Her message is simple: You can turn your obstacles into opportunities and challenges into solutions and make your dreams come true.
Her programs have aired on FOX, PBS affiliates, Citadel Broadcast Company, WTKF and the NPR affiliate, Public Radio East in North Carolina. True to herself that media should be used for better things than negative news and information, Patricia continues to share her vision with the world with her online social networking website www.patriciaraskin.com, her personal blog post and monthly e-newsletter. Patricia is the epitome of the definition of the 21st Century’s media phrase, platform agnostic – any time, anywhere – for living life to the fullest!
Patricia has a Bachelor’s degree from Lesley College and a Masters Degree in Counseling from Salem State College. She resides in Southern New England, where her radio program can be heard for two hours each Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. (ET) on 630WPRO, 99.7 FM, and around the world on www.630wpro.com.
