My trip to Solvang

Yesterday, Jim and I took a trip to Solvang and it was so much fun! I didn’t realize it would take over 3 hours to get there, so by the time we pulled up to our destination, I was ready for a nice long nap!

We toured some of the bakeries, shops and dined in some of their ma and pa restaurants. We found a cool little toy store that had travel games so we loaded up on our collection. We now have

*Clue
*Operation
*Perfection
*Sorry
*Candyland
*Chutes and Ladders

in minature, keychain form! They are so cool! Jim and I like to take small vacations here and there, but sometimes, we need a break from the casinos or amusement parks so we head on back to our room. Once we get there, we’re bored within a few minutes (unless there’s something good on TV). But now, we’re prepared to counter that bordom with our handy collection of keychain games! Yay! These minature keychain games are so cool. They come with ALL the peices of the original games.

This is so awesome! Its a minature version of Sorry with all the peices included….and its a keychain! What will they think of next?!
We found some other cool stores such as Hollywood, which carries a bunch of odd ball stuff from a variety of shows. They had bobbleheads of characters from Star Trek, Star Wars, I Dream of Jeannie (which Jim purchased), Wonder Woman, The Big Labowski, Simpsons, and loads more. They also had a wind-up robot of Bender from Futurama. He’s my favorite character so Jim got that for me. What a sweetie, huh?! :) This store was armed with other cool things, but we took our treasures and moved on before we devoted anymore of Jim’s wallet to them.

Another place we browsed through was "As Seen on TV" and true to its name, it carried loads of crap from informertials, baring the name "As Seen On TV." They had everything from the Bagel Slicer to the latest grills and exercise equiptment that has been seen on tv. I have to admit, it was a fun little shop!

Salvang had loads of restaurants, coffee shops and used book stores as well. Of course, I had to browse through these and I ended up trying some excellent coffee, and Jim bought me three books from one of the bookstores. One included "Children of the Mind’ from Orson Scott Card, which has been a very hard book for me to find. What can I say – Jim loves to spoil me and I don’t mind that one bit! I am so very thankful for all the little ways he showers me with love. I couldn’t ask for anyone better! :)

We also stopped by the Casino thats about 5 miles out from Solvang. While the appearance of the casino was nice, I must admit that I didn’t really care for it too much. People were rude, a few of the machines we sat at were broken and I just didn’t pick up a very good vibe from the place. The buffet was expensive and the selection was very limited. I think a snack from McDonald’s would have been tastier and maybe even healthier. Though in there defence, they did have one of the best selections of fruit I have ever seen at a buffet…but that’s not enough to entice me to go back. Especially when I pick up my own organic, yummy fruit at my neighborhood friendly Farmer’s Market. Yum!

Today, we wondered the streets of Solvang once again and took our time to soak in the atmosphere. We cruised some new shops that we had somehow missed yesterday and attempted to take a look at all three of their museums. Unfortunately, all three of them were closed. Oh well. Maybe we’ll get a chance to view them again on our next trip there.

Oh yes, and if you ever head out to Solvang, or any other Dutch inspired town, you must order a serving of their Aebleskivers. You’re tastebuds will thank you. :)

Aebleskivers!

About nikkitoni

I was homeschooled from 2nd grade through high school by a strict, abusive religious family. During the ages of 15-18, I had the unique opportunity to work for a children's radio station. It was through working at this station that I began to learn the difference between facts and personal convictions. I also learned how to respect and accept the views of others, even though this is something that I had not been taught by my religious upbringing.

Today, I continue my journey on the path of enlightenment. I enjoy reading books on spiritual matters and love to watch movies or TV shows that are inspiring and encouraging.

I have designed several web pages and have also created many online ministries, all of which have thousands of members. I am currently designing a new self-help website and writing my third book.
