Neutral

No such thing, dear one. Not now, not no how, not ever. Oh, sure, we like to think that we can be neutral, and we like to think we can take a neutral stance. Even Switzerland, that famously neutral country isn’t really neutral.

Here’s why: the etymology of the word is French and it means not either [of two]. Not this, and not that, and one thing that’s sure is that whatever we’re trying to be neutral about causes some sort of response—even if it’s indifference.

I love these words of Stewart Emery’s I found in Barbara Winter’s
Winning Ways newsletter:

Nothing in the universe is neutral. It either costs or it contributes.

The next time you’re in a struggle to be neutral about your reaction to whatever, ask yourself if your response either costs or contributes. We live in a polarity on Earth. There will be cost or contribution for sure. Which is up to you.

Be joy,

Susan Corso
