It is coming up for 40 years ago that I returned from a 6 months sojourn as a hippie in India. The journey did not start out that way. I left London on a Kuwait Airways plane heading for Bombay as it then was. The trip had been gifted to me, together with $700 in traveller cheques. I had no idea what was ahead of me. I was a lost soul, very unsure about what I was to do with my life, even whether I belonged in the world at all. I felt like a stranger in a strange land.
India was an awakening for me. I found the energy there powerfully “spiritual” without following any particular guru or avatar or spiritual discipline. I began to feel at home there, at peace with who I am. There were other Western travellers who seemed much more disaffected than I was.
India was where I awoke to my passion. I witnessed many whom I considered to be throwing their lives away on drugs, cannabis or hash, and then the so-called harder drugs, like the highly addictive opium and heroin. It hurt me to see people destroying themselves and binning the gift of their lives. Addicts were dying. I felt passionately about this loss of life.
Over the following 20 years, I adapted to living back in the West, pursuing personal development and spiritual studies as I explored ways of expressing my passion to assist people to “make the most of their lives”. I discovered that I have a gift for assisting people at turning points in their lives, through personal consultations and in programmes for career development, early retirement, inner motivation, personal success.
I created a company called HEART – Human Energy And Resource Technology, or HU TEC for short. HU is a sanskrit word for God. Sanskrit is an ancient Indic language of India, in which the Hindu scriptures and classical Indian epic poems are written and from which many northern Indian languages are derived.
During the next 10 years, my first three books were published and I framed my passion into a mission which is:
To build a better world
on the solid foundation of
individual health wealth and happiness
and the appreciation of human value.
So what of human value, and what about the heart skills? Do you value your life and the gifts it has for you? How are heart skills relevant in a competitive world where surely the game is to get ahead?
Following your “heart” is not a soft option. It embraces courage, strength and creativity. Heart skills are not just receptive and patiently passive. The person with heart will stand forward on their truth and knowing. Fearlessly, those who are heart-centred will challenge injustice or wrong doing; will relentlessly pursue their visions for improving the lot of others; will courageously demonstrate their caring, their passion and devotion to their objectives and values. Obstacles and objections will not get in their way but become sources of new energy, possibility, opportunity and commitment.
More than that, they will challenge their own limitations and weaknesses with love and devotion to the magnificent spirit within them. The human spirit thus served is indomitable.
The challenges facing people today are often a sense of hopelessness, confusion, doubt and lack of focus and direction. You may not be addicted to any kind of drug, but there are plenty of other addictions which while not life-threatening, nevertheless dull life’s capacity for vitality, enthusiasm and exuberance.
Awakening that human spirit in others is my joy. Through the wedding ceremonies I create and officiate, I witness the blossoming love of the human spirit at a key moment in a couple’s life together. Through my writing, I hope to touch that spark of inner Light and greater awareness in my readers. In time, I anticipate sharing more through speaking and facilitating greater heart connections.
Thank you for reading so far. With love, Light and many blessings to you.
