I have come across quite a few Christians (mostly Caucasian) in my time that believe that to be a Christian they have to vote for the political party that is Anti-Abortion and against gay marriages…for the most part, which would be the Republican party.
It seems to me that many Christians are brainwashed into believing that they HAVE to vote Republican or they are not a true Christian.

Jennifer-according to the Scriptures , Jesus did not strive to make us dogmatic, religious, or orthodox – his purpose was to call those who follow him to a more abundant life, a life of love. The Gospels do not contain one single instance of Jesus condmening anyone who is gay, in fact, he does not speak to sexual matters at all. What he does consistently urge those who follow him to do is to love God with our entire being and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Your post evidences a concern for those issues that concerned Jesus – suffering, lonlieness, alienation, injustice. You are right to see your faith in terms of care and concern for others. Thank you for asking those who follow the path of Christ to be mindful of one's duty to "love" rather than to "judge." To condemn others means that we condemn ourselves and hold ourselves back, from who we truly are. Love, Greg
This may sound interesting to you: I grew up in a Democratic Christian area in Wisconsin, and we did talk about the issues, and I can
Jennifer, I know this is an old post and I hope that you will read this. I just want to say, I am a Christian and I am NOT a republican. I am also NOT a democrat either. I believe that both parties say what they want the people to say and one sets themselves as if on a pedestal and the other well….I am not sure sometimes.
It is true, the majority of my Christian brothers and sisters are republican but I believe that what has happened to this country is that we have ALL been forced to choose a side. Whether we have wanted to or not. I am anti abortion but you are right, there are other issues and I think what we all need to do is to pray that we make the proper decision on which issues are needing to be addressed in this crazy world we live in. I have been looked at oddly when I say I don't vote republican and even told I was believing in abortion then…but understand this, not all Christians are republican nor should they be. Jesus, did not help the rich become richer, Jesus did not allow the phareses to go without giving them a tongue lashing. Many of the republicans use Christianity to gain votes, which to me is the worse manipulation one could ever do. However, there have been some true Christian republicans. Bottom line, people are people and corrupt. Man is sinful and will use what ever means they need to get success. Until Christ comes down and claims His victory and takes us home, only then will we understand fully so I guess in the meantime we all need to find some tolerance for each other and relax. God bless and find true peace in Christ.
