The prestige

What are we living for?

What are we dying for?

Should there be a reason?

We work so hard,

We try so hard,

Our minds live in next season.

Always tomorrow,

never today,

The future beckons, so we don’t stay.

Move on, move on,

toward some unknown goal.

Is this right? Do I possess an immortal soul?

As if the answer might indeed

Free us from this mindlessness.

We ask and ask about our souls

While surrendering to our helplessness.

What are we hoping for?

What are we waiting for?

Will death bring us the peace we seek?

We go on living,

We go on dying,

From time to time, we also speak.

To God, to the heavens,

to any who will listen.

Why? How? Where? What’s missing?

Purpose, motivation,

feeling content.

Pleasure, calm, satisfied with a life well spent.

Do we ourselves

Create our angst?

Our minds deceived by intelligence?

A world is created,

Which appeals to us.

So different, so perfect, but so out of touch.

Wake up! Wake up!

Open your eyes,

You dream of suffering, tear away this disguise.

The answers to your pain and doubt,

Lie within and not without.

Be still and know,

all that I am…

I am… now go…

You are free.

About Tonez

I am proudly South African, my passion lies in the humanities field, my dreams are endless, I want to live life fully and inspires others to do the same.

I am blessed with the gift of happiness and share this with others. I am a busy mother of two young and lively children who teach me more than I could teach them! I am blissfully married to my husband of 12 years, the same man I have been with since we were 16 years old.

I have an honours degree in psychology from The University of South Africa. My first book is entitled "You're Happy...you just don't know it yet!" published by Oshun Books. It was inspired by a paper I wrote in college.

I truly believe that we make a difference by being ourselves, being true, sharing with others, and living with conviction. The power of one person lies in the unpredictable effect that one person's life/actions has on others and it's far reaching consequences.

Yes Trisha, it represents the confusion so many of us find ourselves in when we're disconnected and lost. Thank you for reading and commenting ;-)
