Recapturing the Feeling of Unity

Question:

I am not sure whether this is a general question or a medical one.  Several months ago I was outside in my beautiful backyard just standing around enjoying the plants and watching the birds; doing nothing out of the ordinary. In that moment, I experienced what I can only describe as pure joy.  It really has no name to me because I have never experienced these sensations before.  The air was clearer; the light was different and I felt intensely happy and hopeful.  It struck and then it went away.  I have thought about it often since and want to be able to repeat the experience but I do not know how.  Do you know what it was?  Can you help?  I look forward to hearing from you.

 Answer:

That experience of pure joy was a divine gift of your higher Self  offering you a vision of life in unity, bliss and freedom. This was a glimpse of paradise, which is everyone’s birthright—enlightenment. You can’t bring the experience back by wanting it back or trying to recreate the conditions you were in at the time.  The experience of joy and unity was not sustained because your body, or nervous system was not able to  maintain the  level of functioning which upheld that exalted state of consciousness. As the body continues to purify itself of old conditioning and limited belief systems, it will be able to sustain more and more of the natural state of freedom, creativity and joy that is inherent to life. So continue your spiritual practice with patience and persistence, and that joyous experience of  unity consciousness will return as you clear the way for it.

 Love,

Deepak

"Bliss is an intense, dynamic experience and not just a potential." That's a quote from Deepak himself in his book Life After Death. I highly recommend reading this, it will really help you understand what you went through. I've been through it many times this past summer and can tell you that in the beginning, you wouldn't be able to sustain that feeling of ecstasy without going mad. It has to be a gradual process and one that's done in small doses. Leave yourself open to more of those experiences and know that once the door has been unlocked, the bliss will return. This is yourself telling you that you're ready to start moving forward in this new journey. Take it as it comes and let each experience soak in before wanting more. It's possible to become spiritually overloaded!
