Roxana Saberi – Aafiya Siddiqui

When a few weeks ago I wrote about American Iranian journalist Roxana Saberi, on Intent, I did not think anyone saw it,  tucked away deep in one of the pages with nary a comment.  I then posted it on a couple of networking sites, talked about it to a few friends…just doing my thing, never expecting much to come out of it.  Imagine my surprise when I recieved the following in an e-mail blast today!

Roxana Saberi freed!‏

Dear Tori ,

When Roxana Saberi, a 32-year-old American journalist was sentenced to eight years in prison on trumped-up charges of espionage, you and thousands of other Amnesty supporters immediately responded by sending over 26,000 letters to the Iranian government in less than 24 hours.

Your letters worked! Roxana was just released from prison today after an appeal court in Tehran reduced her sentence to two-years, which was then suspended.

Senator Byron Dorgan from Roxana’s home state of North Dakota credited the happy outcome to the international pressure generated by the case.1

Amnesty International worked closely with other human rights organizations in a world-wide effort to obtain justice for Roxana.

Thanks for standing up for Roxana!

It just re-afirmed my faith in the Power of One – one person can make a difference if you sit up and DO something – sometimes it is as simple as talking to someone about it.

Just the other day I was having an argument with my friend – who refused to watch the movie Slumdog Millionaire because she believes making of such movies inadvertently leads to the exploitation of young girls like Rubiana Ali, the girl who played the character of young Latika in the film.  And for a time it seemed as though my friend was right, the girl’s father was in the news for attempting to sell her off for money!  What can one do in a heartless world like this – how can one single-handedly oppose the inevitable? Now suddenly the answer to that seems just a little clearer to me.  This is my gift for today.

Getting back to Roxana Saberi – her victory takes me back to another young woman languishing in another jail – this time an American one – on charges of conspiracy and spying – charges still unproven – awaiting a trial that will decide her fate.

Her name is Aafiya Siddiqui and her story is the mirror of this one with just one exception – the might and power of the American Government machinery that worked to get Roxana Saberi her freedom, is working AGAINST Aafiya Siddiqui.  She is a Pakistani citizen who I am sad to say will perhaps not see the love and support shown to Roxana either from her home country of Pakistan neither her adopted country of America who has brought the charges of conspiracy against her.  My INTENT for the day – If you would watch the clip on You tube at this link:

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Greetings Sister Tori ~ Yes, one being can make a key difference in connected reality. If it is to come true, it is up to you. If it is to be, it is up to me.

Certain specific events with cosmic importance can gather up enough momentum force to tip the leverage in our favor about an issue when a critical mass is reached. I woke up this morning, checked out Google News and saw the article about her release.

I posted it in our new ANH Humane-Rights-Agenda Group this morning ~

Now the news about her release has been getting more and more global coverage!

The whole case could have an influence on international relations between countries. However, there are others who are falsely being caged and imprisoned by dark forces. I wish we could do the same for the long-caged humane being and Native-American Brother Leonard Peltier!
