Should I take a trip to India?

I am supposed to go with a friend on a one month trip to India in February and wanted to get your opinion on this trip, considering the latest incident. This trip is intended to combine 2 weeks of traveling mostly in Rajasthan (landing in New Delhi), going north to Rishikesh for one week to spend time in one of the ashrams, from there fly to Pune, spend another week in Osho’s ashram, and get back home from Mumbai. I normally follow my will, and simply trust!!! However is it too risky, considering the fact that I am American, and a mother of 3, planning to go to popular sites and destinations, and stay in those well known hotels???

I totally want to support India, especially in days where tourism will probably drop, however is it too risky? Honestly, I will be very sad to cancel this trip, or change destination. I would love to hear your opinion on:

  1. Do you think it is safe to travel to these destinations?
  2. Should I travel elsewhere within India?
  3. Postpone the trip?
Also, I need some help with an ashram in Rishikes:
  1. I don’t have a specific Guru/ashram to go to in Rishikesh’s , though I understand there’s many over there. Any recommendation of an Ashram in Rishikesh?
I would greatly appreciate to get your opinion, if you know India, lived there or visited it. I always like to hear first hand experiences from people. This is my first trip to India!

Thank you–Zivi

I offer many workshops for children, parents, and individuals, on various subjects associated with self awareness and personal growth. Throughout my practice, I have always used intuitive cards to increase awareness and to tap into subconscious processes. Through the use of intuitive cards I discovered Tarot cards, which offered a broader range of information. It is important to clarify, however, that I do not use Tarot and other intuitive cards to tell the future, but rather to raise questions, and to shed light in hazy areas. Clients are always fascinated by the information the cards provide and the synchronicity in which they occur. My journey of personal growth never ends, and the more areas I explore, the more I can share with the people around me. It is my belief that we are constantly evolving, and change is inevitable. Dear Ms. Zivi Ninary,

It seems you have planned the trip carefully for specific reasons. There is nothing to deter you. Terrorist acts are like accidents which happen beyond our will. India is a vast country with majority of peace loving people. Please carry on with your plans and you are sure to get immense benefit from the cultural heritage of Bharat.

You have already planned to cover a vast area within a short time. My preference would be to go to a place, say Ramanashram of Tiruvannamalai and spend maximum time there.

    Wishing you all the best,

    With kind regards,

    K S Venkataraman

Thank you so much for your support!!! Is Ramanashram of Tiruvannamalai in Rishikesh, close by or somewhere else? I'll be glad to check it out if you recommend it. I have a feeling that one week would not be sufficient there…well, at least I get the taste of it. I'll be much smarter on my second trip there… :-)

no problem in going to india , just dont let fear take over ur trip , there is no problem in going to these places.

dont miss a golden opportunity to visit these places.

Follow your heart's desires, it will not lead you to danger. Terror attacks are designed to strike fear into our hearts, thus granting the 'evil doers' power over those they scare. So it is not how many they kill that determines their "success," it is how many they scare that determines it. By going on your trip you will strenghten the peace and love that resides in you and in the world. If you succomb to fear, then you become a victim of terrorism and strengthen their cause.

I agree with every word you said, however, being a parent makes me think twice before making such a decision. I come from a country where terror attacks were not uncommon, and yet I visited it regularly. But there were times where I would think twice, or postpone my trip if I knew I would not be in peace, or free to travel anywhere I wanted. Following my heart is certainly one of my main intents…such a challenging opportunity I got, didn't I?

Zivi- I appreciate your blog and your question! I also have been planning a trip to India in early/mid spring. I also have been questioning whether I should still go! Now I feel much better about continuing my long planned journey, thanks to the responses to your question! Very helpful! :)
