Something new

In October last year I helped organise and participated in a Drawing Workshop with a friend from work to encourage people to have a go and 50+ in particular as we work for an organisation that supports older people.  It was my friend’s idea and she was quite passionate about it.  One time she casually mentioned she’d dropped out from a course in her younger years as she found the formal/rigid teaching of it impossible to contain.

Although not for the passion of drawing I helped and we were well supported by our Director.  We made it free of charge.

The event took place in a church hall, in a light hearted kind of way.  All necessary resources were provided and people were also encouraged at portrait drawing.

As we sat face to face she got on with drawing a portrait of me and I was content with drawing an item that had been placed on the table.

We were delighted by this little event, as I trust were those who came along.

She let me keep the drawing as a souvenir of the day and I slipped it behind the peace plant in my bedroom, above which a selection of prayer-poems is on the wall.  It simply seemed to be an appropriate place for it.

I noticed recently the plant was not doing so good!  I made an attempt at reviving it, and only yesterday I looked to buy a new one but there were none at the florist.

As I got up this morning I put the plant in the bin, as it was obvious there was no hope for it.  I picked up the portrait and fixed it on the wall, just below the prayer-poems.

On my way to work, some words about this portrait came to me for it dawned on me it captures the essence of me with Life in it.  It is on a laminated A4 sheet of paper, modest in look yet determined by its colour, the sketchy features gives it a soft look.  The yellow background has spread all over the face, the upper part of the body deep pink with a green scarf around the neck and pulled back auburn hair.  It is truly beautiful, in place, and a new kind of plant is on its way.

With Love, annette
