To spay or not to spay?

Hi, I need some help deciding what is best for my pet rabbit Bunny. She is supposed to be spayed in order to prevent possible tumors, but my family considers the procedure – full histerectomy and ovarectomy – as cruel and intrusive. I just can’t picture myself putting her in a bag and carrying her to a vet at Cornell University to be cut open…  Bunny is single and will stay that way, I suppose, so reproduction and overpopulation are not the issue here. What should I do to make sure she remains healthy and intact? Are there any alternatives to crued removal of entire organ systems in female pets? What causes tumors in animals anyway???

For rabbits I don't know. But I agree, it is cruel. They feel that loss and can't understand it. My concern is that it will change her personality slightly. Ask the vet about the tumor over the phone, take notes and cross reference what the vet says with information online. The more knowledge the more confident you will be about deciding what is best for your friend.
