Question:
Being in the present moment to moment is not easy … I pray …meditate…and believe that the universe supports me…but when I’m angry my mind will not stop going to past and future…I know better …please tell me how you give your problems up to the universe to solve and stay peaceful please….help me with this….
Answer:
Being in the present is being in your Higher Self, the silent witness. It is a state of consciousness, not an attitude or a perspective you can will yourself into with prayer or positive thinking.
The most efficient way to cultivate self-awareness is through meditation. As you meditate, over time your consciousness becomes awake within itself. This silent witness within saturates and illuminates the mind so that it does not look to the past or the future for fulfillment. It experiences peace and freedom within itself in every moment.

"Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul."
Amen to that!
"not an attitude or a perspective" … think not?
I'd call bodhicitta an "orientation", which is pretty close to "attitude" even at the level of metaphor.
As for "perspective" well … is it other than that? I've never been fond of "glass half empty / half full" but yaaa, that's how it operates.
What it isn't, if I bothered to go there, is a conceptual construct … an ideological position … an agenda. Those lead to some variant of neo-realism and its "convince, compel, coerce, conquer".
"consciousness becomes awake within itself" … oooh, as though by its own agency? I'm reactive to notions of external actors.
How about, instead, an individual intentionally cultivating a sense of familiarity? "Calm abiding" and all that.
Being in the present is that to which is NOW…If you don't believe it just sit and it will sneak up on you…And when it has you it has you…Cannot escape from it. If it feels like that that is ego trying to hide…But can't.

Dont have a mindset that being in the present is some kind of religion or the best thing just becuase so many people say so . Its ok if your mind / psychology is such that it sometime take you to the past and sometimes try to peek into future .Its absolutely human nature to do so , resiting that tendency too much can infact cause you more anger to build up.
The best doctor about all your problems is yourself and the day you relaize that you would be comfortable always and you would make more people around you more comfortable.
lovely.

Life is a journey which starts as a big bang (birth), then continues with a live in the present (baby), future (child and teen-age) and past (middle-age to death).
You will need to travel in the future AND the past in order to discover the happiness of the present state.
Thank you Deepak

Good question,
”Over time, your consciousness becomes awake within itself”
In the mean time, whenever you feel anger and your brain starts wandering, just make sure you are aware of it and try to calm your emotions and your brain down. Don’t feel discouraged, every time you catch yourself and make an effort to change, you are progressing in your spiritual path, and this is a wonderful thing.
Love,
Being in present is not enough for meditation. Because knowledge is there so it becomes higher self and silent witness. When state of consciousness is higher, the witness becomes silent.
There is no way to cultivate self-awareness through meditation. That
Good Post Deepak,
About an hour ago I heard a statistic that we think throughout our waking hours at an average rate of one thought per second and 95% of them we thought yesterday and the day before. Makes it pretty obvious the mind is a reinforcing loop system. Therefore, the time spent in daily meditation removes some of that information from the reinforcing loop and tomorrow we only repeat 93% of the same garbage. In addition, as relates to anger, we typically make a friend of it. We are familiar and comfortable with it and reinvite it back into our lives to keep us company. Once we see we are doing that, we can choose peace as an alternative, but not until.
Blessings,
Ed
I guess the problem is acceptance. Being in present doesn’t mean always being (trying to be) happy. Being in present simply means being in whatever is the present.
Best way to be in present is not to think of past and future, keeping mind silent and being alert/ in witnessing state , knowing as Khyyam has said:
"Ah, my Belov'ed fill the Cup that clears
To-day Past Regrets and Future Fears:
To-morrow!–Why, To-morrow I may be
Myself with Yesterday's Sev'n Thousand Years. "
Being in present and realizing your self/Nature is the only way to be Happy , and the attitude of being happy without any reason is the key to happiness!
