Feeling anxious? It’s no surprise. According to Anxiety and Depression Association of America, 40 million adults in the US suffer from anxiety disorders, making it the most common mental illness. The likelihood that you or someone you know is battling with some form of it, especially as the holidays approach, is tremendous. If it is part of your life, perhaps the holidays have become a mixed blessing of happy memories and a struggle to keep your feelings at bay. Knowing that so much can contribute to anxiety, we want to start by developing a practice of combating it with the simple and beautiful act of gratitude.

Intent of the Day: Healing Words

Healing comes in many forms. In medication. In nature. With time and space. Today we explore the healing that comes from the words we receive and speak. As a culture, we’ve come to understand that words can harm. Telling a child that they’ll never grow up to be anything can have lasting implications and we can understand that correlation. But we don’t alway think about using our words with intention for positivity and healing. We don’t always consider how much we say that has no real nutritional value.

“I don’t know…”
“Who knows?…”

We absolve ourselves from taking a position of strength and health and wholeness. So, today, we choose to use our words with intention for healing.

Make It Through Thanksgiving and Black Friday With These Meditations

The holiday season is a great time to spend with family and relax – but all of those people can get you kind of tense. Anxiety can also rise if you are planning to battle the behemoth crowds fighting for the best deals come Friday morning (Or is it Thursday night now? Thanksgiving is being attacked by consumerism). In times like these it is best to keep calm (and carry on!). We at Intent want you to enjoy this holiday and to help you not sweat the small stuff. If you find yourself getting worked up in the moment and don’t have five minutes to calm yourself with a mediation video or today’s challenge guided meditation, try this tip from Gabby Bernstein. Press your thumbs on both hands to the pads of each of your other fingers as you repeat, “Peace begins with me.” Remember to breathe. Say it as many times as you need until you find yourself centered again.

As a last resort just remember that soon there are going to be so many left overs, and pie. Pie makes everything better. Happy holidays!

Deepak Chopra: The Power of Ayurveda for Perfect Health

Does Ayurvedic medicine really work, and if so, how?

In this episode of “Ask Deepak” on The Chopra Well, Deepak Chopra is joined by Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar, an renowned Ayurvedic doctor, to explore Ayurveda as a science of health, wellness, and wholeness. How can Ayurvedic practices be used to create balance and health? Dr. Kshirsagar explains that the purpose of Ayurveda is to connect to your spiritual self and remove the fear of death and disease — that health is a by-product of enlightenment. How do we move beyond a quantitative approach to healing to a more qualitative one?

Ayurveda is the holistic approach to healing that is greatly needed in an age filled with all manners of dis-ease. Is There Any Truth to Astrology?

You may be surprised to hear that for many years Deepak Chopra did not believe in astrology. He has written so much on the wisdom and power of the Universe, but nonetheless saw little validity in the analyzing of horoscopes and the influences of planetary alignments. That all changed, though, when Deepak started researching Vedic astrology, a “profound and mathematically sophisticated form of astrology that originated in the ancient Vedic tradition of India.” (You can learn more about Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, on the Chopra Center website.)

The aspect of Vedic astrology that first inspired Deepak to change his views was the microcosm-macrocosm relationship. Vedic teachings, he says in the “Ask Deepak” episode on Astrology, start from the premise that the micro mirrors the macro, and vice versa. Essentially, the entire cosmos is a magnified version of the immediate and observable realities we witness. By that assumption, Deepak continues, it is possible to derive compelling insights about our lives from by analyzing planetary patterns, using mathematical principles.

Because Universal consciousness is non-local, and we are all expressions of this consciousness, “life is a story of probability events” played out both in the microcosm and the macrocosm.
