Answer:
Think not about more hours: or the lack thereof: instead, focus your attention and intentions on manifesting your dream job.

All too often: one finds themselves settling for any job: let alone one that they actually love.

Time is a vastly misunderstood commodity.

It is as limitless as it is priceless: however: it is not guaranteed.

To waste or squander it: is to be selfish and “un” timely: meaning, to not be limitless or priceless.

Begin each day by stating your intentions.

I intend to find the very best job for ME.

I intend to be open and aware to the signs and signals the Universe sends me.

I intend to follow through with each lead or opportunity with guided enthusiasm or restraint.

Continue to hone and revise your intentions: addressing matters of daily living: health: happiness: and specifically your dream job income, location, hours, boss(es), clients and co-workers: to name a few.

Incorporate the power of intentions throughout your day: so as to sustain a higher vibration: one that mirrors your new level of expectation.

Soon enough: by stating and re-stating your intentions: coupled with conscious awareness of the signs and signals the Universe sends you: you will have manifested your desired outcome.

Dreams jobs really do exist.

They are a match made in heaven: by a benevolent, gracious abundant Universe: and the expressive, faithful soul willing to dream and reach for the stars.

Love will find its way to you in the same manner.

Be willing to be: that which your heart longs for: by mirroring your actions with your intentions.

The power of your intentions will dramatically alter the trajectory of your life experiences.

And so should they: for they are a mirror: of your deepest held desires.

Why Wait: Create Your Intentional Collage to Reach Your Goals

I define a dream as a wish that is powered by a positive intention until it becomes a reality.  We make our own reality each day and that is through our thoughts and convictions.

People who know me know that I take it upon myself to gather my friends together to create personal collages of what we intend to achieve in our lives in the coming year.  These collages help us to define our present so that we can create our future. They keep us focused on our goals and they dare us to fulfill our dreams. The reality is that each year, with each collage is a step closer to making your life positively unfold.

This collage does not have to be about obtaining material things, but can help foster a message of hope, love, and help you out of depression through healing. I once made a personal collage for a surgical procedure and hung it in my hospital room. Each time I looked at it I was spurred on to heal and that was my collage’s intention: healing.

It’s very easy to get caught up in the angst of the world and not realize how deeply global events can affect us in the negative. The signs are: depression, anger, jealousy, impatience, and the growing threat of intolerance. Everything from social media to social connections is threatened simply because it is easier to ride the wave of a bad vibe then it is to work at a positive one.  I remind myself of how important it is for me to be positive if I want to live a long and happy life, and that my every single thought has a profound affect on my entire life.  So, I reprogram my personal intentions through my collage, adding to it as the year progresses.

Though you can also do this on a computer, I have found that it’s more fun in a group to do it the following way.  You will need a few essentials and suggestions to get you started:

Get a piece of cardboard or poster board, scissors, glue and a lot of different and/favorite magazines, newspapers, and photos. Make sure you have a photo of yourself, and the year.  The size of the collage is up to you. If you are doing this as a project with family, friends or business partners, you might want a larger board so everyone can participate.

Cut out the images and words that best represent what you wish to manifest. Arrange them on the board, glue down when you’re satisfied with your work, and take a photo of the final results. Put the original collage in a room at home where you will always see it and use the photo as a screen saver or wallpaper on your computer, tablet and/or phone.

I have seen these collages become a source of motivation, comfort and peace. A collage with intention empowers us and helps us to go with the flow by directing the current so that we arrive at our destination!  The New Year is around the corner and there’s no better time to start!

Why Sleep is Vital to Your Overall Health

The embrace of sleep can be one of the most coveted things a person can ask for after a long day. While the reason we need sleep as yet eludes medical science, it is inarguably necessary. Most of us have experienced the feeling of being tired and spent and then gone to sleep only to wake up completely refreshed—so where does the stress and tiredness go? Well obviously something happens while a person sleeps which alleviates the physical, emotional and mental exhaustions of a day. Even doctors sometimes recommend sleep as a remedy to slight fevers and stress induced headaches etc.

The virtues of sleep are far and wide and affect us in critical ways. How we generally function; our physical and mental productivity, well-being, and activity are all related to the hours of sleep we put ourselves through. Even Psychological health has been found to be effected by our sleeping habits.

Sleep has a restorative quality. While we sleep our body calms down to very low metabolism rate (basal metabolism rate) and general tiredness falls off us as we are weaned off a tiring agent (adenosine) produced by our brain while we are awake. Repairs also take place as muscle growth, protein synthesis etc. are speeded up. So when we wake up we feel refreshed as both our cognitive and physical function have completely recovered and we are again full of energy.

Uninterrupted sleep also hugely impacts the capacity to learn and our memories. When we sleep the new information we have acquisitioned in the hours we were awake is stabilized and consolidated and is stored as memory from which it is easy to recall when we’re awake; so sleep helps retain knowledge and hence enhances our learning process and memory: It makes us more productive—why this is, is a matter of conjecture but studies have found this to be the case, the more hours of sleep the better memory recall and learning a person can have and therefore the more productive a person can be.

Sleep also affects the cognitive brain functions, for right handed people, the right side controlled functions of the brain like reflexes expressive and receptive speech, complex verbal and mathematical skill are all profoundly affected by sleep—the more one sleeps the sharper all these functions will become, being able to perceive and express things better will definitely improve the on our social lives so that is a plus most will welcome.

Nowadays, in the internet age: with everything happening at super speeds and connectivity at an all-time high people care less about sleeping habits and a healthy sleeping routine, they caffeine up and take life late into the night while making room for only patches of sleep. Lack of sleep can cause irritability, moodiness, stress, and even depression–which basically translateto a nose dive in the quality of life. Motivation levels start to tank and this can lead to even worse problems. And all this can turn into a vicious cycle as stress and depression are known to cause insomnia, so one can get caught in a very bad place if one isn’t careful about sleeping habits: A person’s peace of mind will completely be ruined by such a turn of events.

To overcome sleeping disorders a very basic and simple answer is to start exerting yourself physically. Physical exertion causes fatigue in the muscles and increases body temperature so in turn is compensated by the brain by adding hours to deep sleep by cooling down and allowing muscles to relax, and it also helps in making one sleep faster and easier. Mental activities also help as one can try their hands at things like Sudoku or simpler still trying to use your unfavorable hand( left hand for someone who is right handed) etc.  This improves sleep regulation by the brain as its activity rate is improved. Distractions are also a source of lack of sleep which needs to be removed. But that doesn’t mean that one should tax the brain, because it needs to calm down for sleep to come. So the brain should be allowed to be in a relaxed state when a person is about to go to sleep—about a couple hours before bedtime that is. Caffeine drinks like Tea and Coffee or soft drinks, Alcohol and other such beverages should be avoided because both adversely affect sleep; caffeine is a well-known brain stimulant while Alcohol although it makes one drowsy at first ruins sleep after a couple of hours as it has slow acting stimulants. Another important thing is to correct one’s biological clock by making a steady routine for bedtime and getting up in the morning.

So by getting an ample amount of sleep on a regular basis one can avoid all the issues that may pop up from sleep deprivation and restore ones peace of mind, sleep is also a stress relieving exercise and additionally on top of it powers of rejuvenation it also increases productivity so it not only maintains one’s quality of life it actually improves on it. So while ‘early to bed, and early to rise, makes you healthy, wealthy and wise’ may be a clichéd and hackneyed phrase it is in fact a wise motto to believe in.

This is real life. It’s been beyond inspiring to watch people take big, bold steps and then get to cheer them on. As we’re steadily approaching 2014, I’m already thinking about what’s around the corner for myself.

I want to give you a heads up. We’re declaring 2014 the Year of Intent.

What does that mean?

It means all year we’re going to be challenging you to set a big dream and then go for it. We’re going to be helping 12 causes get the word out about their big plans. Let me encourage you to still set daily intents whether they be about your health or self development. Just know that we’re spending the rest of 2013 getting ready to launch some big stuff in 2014.

You should be one of those big things.

Finding the Hugger in Me

sometimes, a hug is all what we needI am not a hugger.

I probably just failed Spirituality 101 by making an “I am” statement that includes a negative, but the truth is, I’m not a big hugger. Even though it’s a negative, it’s a true negative, so there. I’ll hug my children and my close friends, but I am not one of those touchy-feely, hold your hand at a weekend seminar where we literally just met kinds of people. And don’t get me started on those weekend retreats where everyone sits on cushions and shares stories. Oh God, help me. Not sharing!

Really, do I have to sit here and listen to some person go on and on about how they feel about their husband leaving them (“Honey, he left…move on!” is all I can think of to say) and then hear them whine about how they just want to get their power back? I’ll tell you get your power back: you go out and bang the first 27-year-old hottie you can find…trust me, your ex-husband is! On and on these people go, talking about sh** I just don’t understand, like they left their body and were soaring like an eagle and saw the world as an apple and picked at the apple until it was nothing but a core, and they realized the apple was them and they were empty and filled with the seeds of love. WTF?

This is why I have always avoided these events like the plague. I have often been invited to these “Find your Inner Goddess” weekends or “Dream Your New Reality Night” at the local new age bookstore, and I would politely say no thank you. It all just seemed freaky to me; all this out-pouring of love and light. I’m good with you holding your own light and I’ll take care of mine, thank you very much. Yes, I know I made WHAT THE BLEEP and all, and these are supposed to be my people, but I never quite actually felt I fit in.

Probably because I am not a big hugger. And I don’t want to tell you my deepest darkest secrets about how shitty I feel about myself and how afraid I am and hurt I feel. So I didn’t. Instead, I took on the role of documenter of the transformation instead of participant. That was safe for me. I sort of liked watching, like a peeping tom at the awakening of humanity. I could set up cameras and watch, but join in on the circle of light? Nope, not me.

And then the shit hit the fan and my outwardly perfect, very safe looking, carefully crafted charade of a life took a big nose dive out of the sky. Clearly, I wasn’t channeling my inner eagle, and I realized that I was divorced and unhappy, alone in my un-huggable bubble. The truth was, I wanted to actually experience an authentic life which meant, well, I was gonna have to learn to hug and share. Because the truth is, transformation, awakening, or simply realizing happiness, isn’t something that rubs off on you by watching. You have to participate.

So I did.

I went to a Goddess Dream weekend in Mexico and had my mind blown. It wasn’t just about the hugging, although it turns out I’m pretty good at that. It was about me, showing up for myself, listening to what was in my soul and sharing it, not only with myself but with others. Then, finally feeling not alone, and actually feeling that love and light everyone talks about. But not in some fake, glazed over, blissed out because that’s what we think we’re supposed to be kind of way. It was real, authentic and it didn’t come from hiding how I felt and pretending everything was cool. It came from good old-fashioned honesty, hugging and sharing. Boy, did I share. I was the annoying one; I was the one crying about my past and my hurt. And suddenly, it was released. And I finally understood all that love and light.

So now, when someone approaches me to hug me, I practically leap into there arms. I am happy to admit I am a damn good hugger and if you’ve got something to share, I’m here to listen too, with all the love and light I can muster.

Feel Reality

The growl was rolling in my throat. A rhythmic, vibrating accompaniment for the movements of my body, the soft steps, the stretches and contractions of muscles. I moved a paw forward and my lips lifted over my fangs. Wild. I was wild. I was a wild cat. Another step crumbled a pile of dry leaves, I moved my paw, I moved my hand, I touched the soft, rumpled blanket. Bed. I was in bed. There was silence and soft breath near me, there were the heavy spots of warmth where dogs slept. I was in bed.

I was wild. I closed my eyes again. The forest was warm, pulsating with life. Life I could feel … I can feel it! I thought “I am a cat and I am the forest”. The thought brought others along, “I am the cat” I thought, and the cat became distant, distinct, separate. “I am being the cat” I thought, and stopped being it. I was thinking now, moving back into my body, back in my mind watching, observing, describing … “no!” I thought, “No! Stop thinking, stop thinking … be…”

I padded through the forest, with the forest, as the forest. I felt it on my skin. I felt it in my muscles. I felt the tension, the softness, the presence. I felt it as my body. I felt the trees and their silence, the buzzing of their flesh, of my flesh, stretching high towards the sky. I felt the water spilling over a damp earth. I felt pulled downhill with the rushing streams, I flew over rocks in the rapids with the dancing rivers. I felt the fear and submission of prey hiding nearby, in thorny bushes and earthen holes. I felt their timid presence. Their rapid, pulsating life was my own.

I felt another life, strong, powerful. Present. I felt it and knew I must meet and confront it. My authority against it’s. We must try each-other. The tension must be resolved. The strength must be tested. Hierarchy must be established.

I felt the forest, I felt being, I felt life. I was life.

“Now you know,” said the cat, “now you know how you can be wild in the world.”

“Yes. Thank you”

There was an acknowledgment. The cat left.

I lifted my head, I opened my eyes. In the midst of the night I was wide awake. “I was a wild cat!” I whispered to my husband. “Oh,” he said.

Oh.

There was nothing more to be said.

Thursday Morning Melody: Pretty Face

A beat is laid out, hesitantly moving along at first, then careering, taking off; soon sepia-toned clouds of piano gather overhead, shimmering, turning darker and richer, and then Sóley raises her voice – a voice that, until five years ago, she didn’t even consider a proper ‘singing voice’.

This is how Icelandic singer/songwriter Sóley Stefánsdóttir describes her work – and the impression given is uncannily accurate. Hailing originally from the seven-piece indie folk group, Seabear, Sóley began as a pure instrumentalist, only coming into her skin as a singer in 2010. And how lucky we are that she did! True to the quote above, her music is more atmospheric than it is melodic, though that shouldn’t keep you from singing along. Instruments, voice, and lyrics come together with gossamer beauty, seemingly ephemeral in their dreaminess. Enjoy the misty tune, “Pretty Face,” off Sóley’s second album, We Sink, and see if you can detect its subtle meaning.

Are we living in a dream world?

In the latest episode of THE RABBIT HOLE on The Chopra Well, Deepak Chopra addresses this timeless question about the true nature of reality. A conventional understanding of reality suggests that, equipped with our five sense and a logical mind, we move through life experiencing things just as they are. But consider how much time we spend in our heads, immersed in the past, future, or in daydreams. The present often eludes us, entire hours, days and weeks passing in a waking sleep. Only in rare moments do we find ourselves entirely awake and present, perhaps while intensely focused on a project or in the electric experience of love.

Perceptual reality, as Deepak explains, is bound to be incomplete. We can’t expect our limited senses to capture the whole kaleidoscope of the universe. Oriented as we are to the tidiness and reliability of life, our sensitive egos probably wouldn’t be able to handle a new picture of reality, anyways. Take the example from Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.” In the story, human beings exist in a cave, confined by restraints that limit their movement. They are only able to see the wall directly in front of them, across which shadows dance. This is their reality – a world of darkness and shadows. It is not a good or a bad life, in and of itself, because it is all they know, all they perceive. It just is.

One day, a person is released from the constraints and, upon discovering the opening of the cave, ventures outside into the unknown. He is blinded at first by the unbearable brilliance of sunlight. He trips and cries his way through this strange new world. For him, shadows represent the truest reality. What is a tree when before there were only silhouettes of trees? But as he acclimates to the light, he begins to perceive reflections of objects in water, then the objects themselves, then the light of the sky and stars. Finally, he beholds the sun, itself, and comes to see the true nature of life. Upon this realization, Plato continues, the man would surely think back to his time in the cave with a sense of relief and a great pity for those who still dwell there.

Thoughts and beliefs tend to crowd our reality much like the shadows on the cave wall. The process of deconstructing these beliefs and shedding old habits can be uncomfortable, even disorienting. But if we find the spaces between our thoughts and internal dialogue, Deepak says, then we can awaken to a more fundamental truth. Question what you ‘know’ and what you believe. Bring your mind back to the present moment when it strays to thoughts of the past. As our perception shifts, the conditions of our lives will follow. And outside the cave, anything is possible.

Proof you went psychotic last night… plus why you should ask your boss for naptime

University of California Psychology and Neuroscience Professor, Matthew Walker, gives three good reasons to believe we all become psychotic when we sleep:

  1. You see things that simply were not there (you hallucinate).
  2. You believe things that could not possibly be true (you become delusional).
  3. When you wake up, you probably forget most if not all of what happened (you experience amnesia).

Matthew Walker is one of my scientific heroes. The man has literally it his mission to prove that midday naps are a vital to learning and that dreams aid in emotional processing. How cool is that?

I was talking to a friend yesterday about how in America (and much of the “modernized” world), we really de-value the importance of sleep in an effort to be more productive. In most cultures throughout history, there has been time set aside — usually right after lunch — for people to rest, digest, have a little siesta before getting back to work. Now, we’re seeing the American work-your-tail-off-9am-to-5pm model being embraced in developing countries all around the world. The underlying assumption is that skipping sleep and working more will make us more productive. But according to Walker’s research… that’s not necessarily the case.

I’ve always been taught that naps are for lazy people, something you only get to do if you’re feeling sick or have a lot of time on your hands. Sleep, however, appears to be a far more complex and integral phenomenon than we give it credit for. A thirty-minute cat nap can help consolidate memory, enhance cognitive skills, and support the integration of emotional experiences. As we learned yesterday, you’ll actually die from lack of sleep before you will starvation. Sometimes, you’re more productive with your head on a pillow than in front of a computer screen.

So maybe catching a few extra Zzzzzz after lunch isn’t such a bad thing after all, even if it does make you a little psychotic.
