Why Consciousness Is Still a Mystery—Sorting Out the Clues

eyes

By Deepak Chopra, MD

No one doubts that it’s hard to figure out where consciousness comes from, and when a problem persists for thousands of years—which is literally true in this case—it’s worthwhile sorting out the clues that might lead to an answer. Some are better than others, and a few may be completely false. At the very least, if we can agree on the hottest leads, a final answer may come nearer.

Clue #1: The brain lights up when we think.

Neuroscience depends exclusively upon this clue, which offers material traces (so-called neural correlates) to mental activity.

Advantage: Watching the brain in action provides the most reliable map to date of how the activity of consciousness is physically processed.

Disadvantage: There is no proof that neural correlates are anything except correlates. They could be symptoms or signs of consciousness rather than the cause. Any attempt to make consciousness physical, in fact, is suspect.

Deepak Chopra: Are Nature’s Laws Structured in Consciousness?

What is the relationship between nature’s laws and consciousness? Are natural laws actually mathematical explanations of the regularities we observe in the universe? In this episode of “Ask Deepak” on The Chopra Well, Deepak addresses the scientific relationships among biology, science, math, and consciousness. Check it out!

The laws of nature are explanations to modes of observation in human consciousness. Through a string of scientific relationships, life is biology, which is, in turn, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, and math. Thus life is math, and math, as a symbolic system, is consciousness. Therefore, consciousness may be the basis of all the laws of physics, which are also the laws of nature. What do you think? Do the laws of nature derive from consciousness?

Wikileaks:Preview of a Transparent World

Wikileak’ s decision to collect and reveal confidential documents that deeply touch governments and people illustrates powerful lessons about the nature of our world. Barriers of privacy are crumbling. What anyone says or does can be recorded and revealed to millions of people worldwide.  What does this mean for you? For centuries intuitives and mystics have experienced the world as transparent. Actions, words and even thoughts accompany individuals like a record legible to anyone subtle enough to perceive them.

While I don’t condone the lack of integrity of Wikileak’s acts, they’re symbolic of the way our world is ever more interconnected and transparent. It’s becoming more difficult to hide things. Now, take a leap forward for a sneak preview into a society of evolved human consciousness.  Here your neighbor, your mate and your boss can know and see your thoughts and actions — not through spying, but simply by looking at you because you carry them around you in images, video, and audio. Those around you have a built-in mechanism that allows them to “see” all of these aspects of you. This is the nature of the world as seen by psychics. All of the things you think you could do undercover are no longer secret — not even a single thought or emotion.

There will be little need for spies, body scanners at airports or other eavesdropping devices because we have them already built-in to the evolved human anatomy.  In this new world where everyone can perceive the subtle energies, you are held to live to your highest degree of integrity because you know that your life story will be visible to everyone around you — all of the time. This is not a vision of  author, George Orwell’s 1984. It’s the way those who perceive and experience the subtle as well as the physical world right now. Deception becomes impossible, except to one’s self. Cheating and ill thoughts are written on the ethereal record around a body and accompany the individual for a lifetime. Every single action, word and thought is a visible part of the baggage (or gems) carried around by every individual.

Medical intuitive, Edgar Cayce, said, “Thoughts are things.” The Internet is symbolic of the speed of thought and it reveals the nature of this new age of consciousness which we’re entering. Integrity is essential to creating harmony in this world where words hold great power.  We’re all so intimately interconnected that any word or behavior may end up being recorded for posterity and appearing on screens around the world. Those words and actions can help millions or harm just as many.

We need to be conscious of our thoughts, words and actions and their far-reaching effects on others. A friend said recently that what appears on the Internet will be around forever. It’s not going to go away. If we live our lives with this in mind and carry around good thoughts, speak good, encouraging words and act with an intent to help and serve others, there will be no reason for shame or embarrassment if someone finds them out.
