Why Science Is Ultimately Spiritual, and Vice Versa

Despite attempts to reconcile science with the long history of spirituality, a gulf still exists between them–a totally unnecessary one. There is only one reality, and science differs from spirituality only in its style of describing what is real. If this is true, then it’s not simply an option to merge science with spirituality. They must be compatible. If not, then reality has eluded both camps.

Here is a way to see the two approaches as one, based on a common element, the brain. Whether you are a physicists or a mystic, you experience the universe through your brain. So how does the brain organize experience? That’s easily answered by looking at everyday life. We experience everything from toasters and school buses to clouds and rainbows by attaching a name to them. Names are how we identify anything that has a form. In this way the brain freezes things in place, even if the thing is a fleeting subatomic particle like the Higgs boson or an electron. Continue reading

Who are You and What are you doing here?

 

 

Let’s start by talking about the human experience that we are having and how amazing it is. The fact that we hear a lot that we are actually Spiritual beings can unknowingly minimize our grandiosity and the importance that we are here to HAVE a human EXPERIENCE. As long as we are alive, we are here to receive and appreciate this amazing gift and to find purpose and meaning in every day, regardless of the circumstances. Once again, individuals cut themselves short from what is available to them because they allow themselves to believe that this state, which we call humanity, is not worthy enough because the spiritual part of our being is what we need to pursue. 

 

If you stop to think about it and put a great amount of attention, you will realize that we have the most amazing creation ever within our body, mind and awareness. These include our emotions, our intellect and of course our imagination. “You are the light of the world.” I can go on forever talking about the incredible things that our humanity represents, but instead what I wish for you the most is to take the time to meditate on what I just brought to your attention. We have everything that we ever need within our self and the more we learn to understand it and celebrate it, the more is revealed to us. We definitely don’t need to be reaching to be spiritual or see it as something separate from us because in essence, everything is Divine Presence, which is far beyond our comprehension anyway! So, let’s stick to what we do know! “The kingdom of heaven is within and at hand.”

 

I wake up every morning to the realization that I have this magnificent body that it’s doing for me more than every doctor and pharmacist in the world can ever do in a lifetime and for the most part it is done by remembered guidance. I have tears of joy every morning when I give thanks for my senses that allow me to experience all the things around me, specially my children, wife, animals and the beautiful nature that surrounds me. Just to be able to hear my kids giggle is an amazing phenomena that brings an incredible amount of joy to every cell of my body. If you really think about the complexity of such an experience, you can’t help but to be grateful and inspired every moment. The list goes on because I then give thanks for having the capacity to feel what I experience when I see the beauty and the love in and around me. I easily spend hours just contemplating the magnitude of the Universe and the harmonious dance it has with the rhythms of our bodies. The perfection by which operates…whether it’s the beauty of a flower, the transformation of a butterfly or the smile on the face of my beautiful wife and best friend; these are miraculous creations and the fact that I get to experience them, is miraculous in itself! 

 

But it doesn’t stop there, then I go into feeling grateful for the fact that I have a mind that allows me to create my own reality. Although it has zillions of bits of information that can easily overload my nervous system with stimulus and information, it only allows me to see and attract the things that support the life I want to have. What ever I put my attention to, it allows me to see everything that supports such beliefs through the deletion filters of the conscious mind.  And I can choose what to believe and not to believe based on my own perception of what brings love, joy, health and abundance into my life because I have the ability to learn through my intellect what is good for me and what is not. “It will be done unto you as you believe.” My awareness allows me to see things clearly and I can forgive myself and others for the mistakes we make when learning the game of life. Whenever I catch a glimpse of a though of the past based on fear or doubt, I can use my imagination to erase it and make it be what ever I like it to be. “Imagination is better than knowledge.” Since I choose to see myself as the embodiment of Divine Spirit, I decide what kind of memory I am allowing to direct my unconscious mind to take me beyond my wildest imagination. “What ever man sows, he must reap.”

 

Now here is the kicker, when I am done giving thanks and meditating, then I use the power of visualization to give form to what is coming my way. I am here to be an instrument of good and allow the life energy to flow through me. I have the power to paint my own canvas and to experience the life of my dreams. Ideas come into my mind from a source that seems to love me more than I can ever love myself. This is what I call Conscious Living and what I am so passionate about, because the power within me is greater than the power in the world. “I am not of this world; this body and the world is in Me.”   

 

 

So who I am? Some one who is similar to you and has learned to consciously love and appreciate this magnificent gift we call life!

What I am doing here? Mindfully and consciously experiencing every moment that I am alive and creating an avenue by which I can give back to to the world, to fulfill my purpose in life!

Permission to Feel: Pushing Away Emotion

Throughout our lives, we may experience emotions that disturb or distress us. Often, our first reaction is to push our feelings away. We may say, "I don’t want to think about that right now, I’ll think about it later" and we bury our emotions, deny the validity of our feelings, or distract ourselves with other concerns. But the diverse emotions you experience are neither good nor bad–they are simply a part being human. Choosing not to experience pain, anger, or other intense feelings could cause those feelings to become buried deep into your physical body. There, they may linger unresolved and unable to emerge, even as they affect the way you experience the world. Allowing yourself to experience all of your emotions rather than push the more painful ones away can help you come to terms with your feelings so you can experience them and then move on.

It is possible to bring forth the old feelings you have pushed aside and experience them in a safe and enriching way. It may sound silly to set aside time to feel your old wounds that you haven’t dealt with, but this can be a very beneficial healing experience. Find a safel place and pick a time when you can be alone. Make sure that you feel secure and comfortable in your surroundings. Bring to mind the circumstances that originally triggered the emotions you’ve been pushing away. You may need to revisit these circumstances by reading relevant entries in your journal or using visualization to relive your past. Once you have triggered your long-denied emotions, let yourself feel your feelings, and try not to judge your reactions. Cry or sound your emotions if you need to, and don’t block the flow of your feelings. Allow any thoughts that are connected to your emotions to surface. As you release the feelings you have pushed inside of you, you will find yourself healing from the experience associated with these emotions.

When you deal with your feelings directly, they can move through you rather than staying stopped up in your body as emotional blocks that can sometimes turn into disease. Acknowledging your emotions, instead of pushing them away, allows you to stay emotionally healthy and in touch with your feelings.
